Just a warning guys, don't let this one get nasty or it will go bye bye.

    carry on.

Neck shots are a no-no with archery tackle.

I'd never take that shot. Too risky. i trust myself enough to make the shot on the vitals. its a larger area than the neck also so i don't even know why that shot would be someones top choice in the first place. but to each their own i guess, just not my thang

Agree. That's why we surround ourselves with like minded Individuals when hunting. Please don't take offense to this Jason.

Well here is another question. So lets take center of the deer on the vitals. If you aim at this spot, how much of fudge factor do you have either way and still get a good quick kill. I am guessing, from what I know of deer anatomy, 2-3 inches up, down, left, or right. Take in to account most shots are made from elevation of a deer stand. If a deer is quartering away or broadside from you and you are shooting a 1.5-2 inch broadhead you should get lung and some heart.

No offense taken. We stood up in each others first weddings and have been friends for twenty years. He was with me the day I killed my first deer and we have shared hunting properties ever since. I don't approve of his tactics but it won't stop me from sharing in past or future hunts.

I would question that alleged biologist's credentials. Any bowhunter's education course will teach responsible bowhunting, and that wouldn't include any archery neck shots. My 2-cents' worth!

check this link out. http://www.chuckhawks.com/kill_zone_game_animals.htm Its even bigger than that, which means an even greater chance of sending an arrow through the hot box.

If you are aiming for the center of the kill zone (center of lungs) you have quite a bit more "fudge factor" than 2-3 inches in each direction...

I have let alot of nice deer walk that did not present a good heart shot. The first deer i had come in on me while bow hunting was a nice 10 pointer 20 yards but all i could see was his front part of his shoulder to his head and i did not take the shot and still do not regret it!

I shot them in the eye to blind them, then I get down and chase them with a knife and finish them Ninja style. Theres only honor in death by the steel.

Of course, neck shots are the only way to go! Just kidding! Broadside or quartering away only. Too much can go wrong aiming for the neck with a bow. I don't rifle hunt anymore, but when I did I still did not take neck shots (I was not good enough with a rifle to do so, and saw small room for error). Don't listen to your friends or their biologist.

Texas Heart Shots are the only ethical way to take deer any other shot is inhumane.

LOL, this ol' chesnut. A biologist told me if I shoot him in his butt hole the bullet/arrow will travel through his intestines and out his mouth hitting all vitals on the way and the deer will just fall asleep right there feeling no pain whatsoever, I keep my eye on the brown eye:violin:
Lesson here if ya missed it is listening to stupid people doesn't make you smart:)

my dad and i both butcher our deer ourselves and after seeing what a slug or a rifle bullet does to the meat around the shoulders, if i get a doe close enough, i will always shoot her in the neck or head. and thats when im using my rifle, not my bow btw
