I have always learned and taught to shoot for the heart of a deer. However, there are a group of people (here) that believe and practice shooting in the neck. Apparently a "biologist" told them that if you aim for the neck and miss a good shot that the deer will heal quickly and live on with no problems, but if you shoot for the heart and miss the deer may still die way longer.

    What do you believe in?

    That biologist is an idiot.

I bet the "hunter" that shot this buck thought he had him in the bag.

Btw...the guy in the pic is the one that killed the deer...not the one that put the arrow in its head.

That pic with the arrow in the deer is shameful. That is why I practice, practice, practice. I have a friend who got his crossbow out of the closet, shot 3 arrows from 2 distances and called it good. I told him that he needed to come back and shoot a lot more from different distances so he would make a good kill shot. He shot and lost 2 deer last year. I helped him track both of them. He makes me mad!!

Thats pretty cruel to shoot a deer in the head like that...Hopefully that deer didn't suffer too long before that other guy put him down. I disagree with head shots...although they make for a fast kill...in some way to me its wrong...even with a gun I wouldn't take the shot.

I would never take a head shot with anything, bow or rifle. Just too many things could go wrong. I wouldn't even feel comfortable taking a neck shot with a rifle either. If you have time to shoot it in the neck, you more than likely have time to shoot it in the vitals

There's no integrity in a head shot... Just doesn't seem appealing to me quite honestly

I have a friend that has killed three deer with neck shots and I cringe every time he does. Somehow he is 3-3 on the ole trick shots as my ex-father in law called them.

No thank you. I would not hunt with anyone that makes shots like a head or neck shot.

I do and have no issue. If he looses a deer he lives with it. I have seen plenty of people blow a double lung shot or heart shot and lose deer as well. My friendship won't be ended over how my friends kill deer;)

I understand Jason. But, what in the heck are people hoping to hit to cleanly kill a deer in it's neck?

My friend has shot all three head on while walking toward him. The shots hit the vertebrae in the neck, severe the artery and nerves and they drop like a rock. I will never take the shot but somehow he is confident in the shot and takes it. I still cringe when he does it.
