Was planning on hunting this opening morning but it is raining pretty hard here. So I am just sitting in the house reading about hunting. We have several good young bucks 2.5-3.5 years old and 120-140" on camera. Still haven't seen the big ones on camera this year. Hoping they show up soon. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free
I pulled cameras on my place opening morning and my worst fears were realized. In 3 weeks I only had 3 different deer and only one buck, a 1 1/2 y/o that stood under my stand for about 15 minutes as I took pictures of him with my cell phone opening morning. Going to be a tough year the way it looks.
I was able to get out last week and didn't have any luck. Seen some deer but nothing close enough. They were all does so it is not looking good to get a monster down this year. I agree that is is going to be a tough year.
So after a few weeks of hunting what are you guys seeing for numbers? My cameras are the slowest they have ever been, I only have one mature buck pic so far. My gut tells me we have less than half the population and probably closer to a quarter when you get right down to it. I hope you guys have better reports to give me some hope. If people don't use their heads during rifle season we might not have much left in my area.
Hi guys I'm heading out to hunt with an outfitter for a week starting this weekend. Its near Lynch. I asked him about getting hit with EHD he said they were hit hard but that they still had a lot of deer. I was just looking to see if any of you guys knew the area and what your thoughts were?
Hunted southeast NE last weekend. Headed back Friday night for a 4 day hunt. I've seen lots of hunters but no very many deer!
I don't know the area but I do know that there are pockets around the state that weren't hit as hard as others. Good luck, let us know what you are seeing.
Hopefully the combines are running hard this weekend and more corn is coming out, with the numbers being as low as they are we probably won't see many deer in the woods until the fields are clean. The more the crops are coming out the more deer I've been seeing but that only means I'm seeing a deer or two compared to none. I have gotten a couple of good bucks on camera the last couple weeks, hopefully I can get lucky and be in the right place at the right time.
How much rain did you get the last few days? This is certainly slowing the farmers down here. Concerned this will be the same your way.
I managed to get out last weekend but the numbers are way down from last year. Hunting Rock Co. in western Nebraska. There is still a lot of corn in so hopefully that will be out by the time rifle season starts and we can start to see more deer. Managed to see 10 doe but nothing in range. Say a couple smaller bucks including this one. Both were within 15 yards. Spooked a couple shooters bedding down so hopefully I can see them again.
Just returned from a 3 day trip in NE. Nothing happen there! 2 of us averaged one deer per sit. First night I was there I had a solid 145+ 10 pointer come in early. Before 5 PM. (Before time change) I let him walk at 5 yards thinking NE was going to be hot. Boy if I would have known then what I know now I would have taken him. Didn't see squat the rest the trip. High winds, and lots of standing corn! Just got back tonight. Weather was near perfect. Saw a single doe right at dark... Sighs That's hunt'n! Gun season starts on the 16th? This jacks my plans all up! Oh and that bucks neck was nowhere near swollen! Late rut for NE possibly???
Hey guys im new to this site but i hunt the SE part of the state. I try and get out almost everyday so i feel i have a pretty good idea on whats goin on. The rut does seem to be moving slow on my farms. I have seen some hard chasing by small bucks but none of my big boys have shown their face since mid oct. i did see a 2 year old crusing hard last night looking for does so i hope its just around the corner.
