I've hunted NE public land several years. They don't have a lot of it compared to KS anyway. The closer you get to rivers and major city's the more pressure there is. Stay as far as away from Omaha as you can. It's a real cluster ****.

Thank you guys for the replies.

What's the process for hunting public land? Bring my stand and put it up when I want to hunt. I can't leave it there can I? Any other how to or tips would be great.

We usually camp and hunt a full week at a time. I will scout properties well in advance by aerial maps. If I am not familiar with a piece of property I will enter it mid day setup a stand and hunt it that night. I will leave it and hunt it again the following morning. I'll then leave it, make an adjustment or take it down all together after the morning hunt. That afternoon I will set another stand on another property and repeat until i have a few stands hung for various winds.

I'd say the deer population are on the rebound in NE. Two years ago it was really tough. Then again I had a 150s class buck come in and give me several shot opportunities on the first evening. I may have been in the stand a couple hours.... Guess I didn't want to sit in camp for a week while everyone else hunted. The wind picked up and blew 30+ mph for the rest of the week. Very little activity... I will never do that again!

Oh wow lol! So from the sounds of it most people are pretty trust worthy and you can leave a stand out for a weekend?

We hunt public land during the week. Less pressure = less likely to have problems such as you suggested. On pub ground I always lock up my stands with a python cable and take the bottom two sticks out with me.
