2018? How does that work...is it due to your plan was in place prior to 2010 or whatever it was...remember reading something about that or something...

To appease the unions and gov't workers the tax on healthcare plans was not to go into effect until 2018. I work for the Post Office so my plan will fall under that umbrella. Noone talks about it now but it is coming, and the union stools will freak out. I am already lubing up but I have not started looking to see exactly what it will cost me.

Beginning in 2018, a 40 percent excise tax will be imposed on the value of health insurance benefits exceeding a certain threshold. The thresholds are $10,200 for individual coverage and $27,500 for family coverage (indexed to inflation). The thresholds increase for individuals in high-risk professions and for employers that have a disproportionately older population.

There have been a lot of reasons to be thankful that I'm retired military, but having Tricare coverage and not having to worry about this "Obamacare" nightmare might just top the list.

We've been informed that our current plan will be dropped in July since it doesn't 'live up to' the new standards. My company is searching for a replacement plan. Can't wait to see how much more that will cost.

It's a joke. Me and my wife pay for coverage for our kids but refuse to pay to insure ourselves. Our policy went from a decent $300 a month for us and three kids to almost $800 a month for the family. Also since my wife works and has a college degree and makes decent money We don't qualify for any tax breaks on the insurance. She would almost be better off not to work and sit home. He is killing the middle class people. It's a sad day when your health insurance payment is the same as your mortgage payment.

My insurance has exploded well before Obama care was even past. Insurance companies knew well in advance they were going to take a hit so they have existing policy holders pay for it! My premiums have doubled and my benefits are less along with a much higher deductible. I am so sick of the politicians and the news boasting how great Obama care is. I am sure it is great for those that didn't have or couldn't get insurance... But we are paying for it & it pisses me of to no end.

Out of sheer curiosity would you mind sharing rough costs and benefits of what you have now versus what you'll have in 2015?

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Obama isn't the one who is raising the prices here. It's the insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, lawyers and everyone else who is protecting their business interests and gouging the American citizen at every single step of the health care process. Obamacare sure isn't helping, but in many cases the insurance companies and others are using it as a cover story to raise costs without taking the blame. "Hey, don't blame us. It's Obamacare!"

The parent company of Blue Cross Blue Shield of IL did 22.6 BILLION dollars in sales in 2013 with a nearly 700 MILLION dollar profit, which was the first time since 2010 that they posted a profit of less than 1 BILLION dollars. The only reason for the decline in profit was shuffling of funds into "reserve" accounts allegedly to protect them from shortfalls in Obamacare (aka accounting tricks to shift blame once more).

Think about that. A company who is raising our premiums every year (and has been for a long time), decreasing benefits, and until Obamacare mandates was refusing to insure people with "pre-existing conditions" with an annual PROFIT of over 1 billion dollars year in and year out.

Do you think BCBS cares about the individual health concerns of anyone they insure? Do they care if their plans are not affordable or offer poor coverage and higher than average deductibles? Of course not. The only thing they care about is putting money in their pockets as everyone else's expense. How that doesn't disgust people is beyond me. Yet all we ever hear about is how bad Obama is and that he's raising our insurance premiums. The time has come to look elsewhere if you want real solutions and real change.

    God Bless America.

The massive amount of folders with exact specs is at kitchen table from being up till 2am....will report those exact specs when I can.

I hear you on the true reason it increased to an extent...but I find it as no "coincident" that when the federal government stuck it's fingers in deeper things got "poop"ier. I am looking long and hard at the Medishare or Christian Healthcare options....real alternative and not as dangerous as being un-insured but truly isn't insurance either though....

TJ....honestly brother KS is the only bright spot of news this boy has right now....outside God and family of course, which should be enough, just struggling to remember that.

The people I know who lost their coverage they liked at the price they liked did not lose there coverage because of the greedy insurance companies. They lost there coverage because it was deemed inadequate to the guidelines of obumacare. Keep thinking it has nothing to do with the POS in the whitehouse and the rest of the scumbag leftists.

I never said it had nothing to do with Obama or the politicians, but I'm saying that's not the only place to look. In fact, that's probably not even the best place to look.

You don't think for a second when the plans that no longer met the regulations of the ACA were cancelled the insurance companies didn't use that as an opportunity to replace them with plans that cost more money? Come on now, we're all smarter than that. They cancelled a plan and replaced it with one that provides less coverage at a higher rate. That's not the fault of Obama, that's the insurance company lining their pockets and blaming someone else for the price increase.

Everyone is quick to take the bait and point the blame at the government without looking for one second at insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies or anyone else involved in the healthcare racket. It works out great for them because they're not the bad guy while it divides the country and makes it nearly impossible for any sort of real reform to take place because we're all fighting over who to elect. In the meantime companies like GlaxoSmithKline sit back and make 8 BILLION dollar PROFITS each year while we all blame Obama for our costs going up.

I am starting to think Dan is a wise man. He is correct. I believe we will go single payer within the next ten years. We will beg for it.

The only positive I can see is the older Americans that uses Medicare & Medicaid do not seem to hate what they have.

Doesn't it make sense that if you started an insurance company that offered affordable good coverage and not over priced crap, you would dominate the market and you could survive and even make money on a small margin?
