Took this guy on November 1st at 7:35 A.M. It was only my fifth sit of the year as I hadn't been able to get out much due to work. Temp was in the low 30s and I had the perfect N/NE wind that I needed for this setup........which was a tight funnel(50 yards) that the does like to travel in the morning on the way back to bed. He was chasing a (yearling) doe and stopped broadside at 44 yards and was looking away from me. From the time I saw the doe to the time the arrow sliced through his lungs was probably 5 seconds. I think I just thought if I waited another split second he would have been off chasing again. The shot was a clean passthrough and the buck piled up within 50 yards. I have to admit that even though this deer won't make P&Y, it feels good to get back in the game after not scoring on a mature buck since 2006. In the last 2 seasons I have missed multiple bucks, drew my bow too early(twice), and had to pass up an 18 yard shot on a 170" 10 point due to poor shooting lane trimming. To say my confidence was in need of repair was an understatement to say the least. Now i need to figure out what I am going to do from Nov.4th-15th when I am on vacation.
I would say thats a dandy sir!! Concrats! Your boy Looks pleased too! Where abouts in NE ohio? WE will have to grab some wings lol
sure is a dandy of a deer..haha awesome buck bro... Relax and watch some football, enjoy it, ,or you could go nanny whackin......
Thanks for all the nice replies fellas. I forgot to mention something that kind of struck me weird with this deer. It was a good 30 minutes after I shot the deer that I started to drag it and noticed the doe the buck had been chasing was still hanging around. She was less than 25 yards from me and pretty much refused to leave. Must have been in love.
