If Davis sticks around, I think he will be a more proficient scorer next year. I had no idea that two years ago he was a 6'2 point guard. That's a lot of growing and developing in a short period of time. He handles this well on the defensive side of the ball and time will only make him better offensively.
Only certain statement of the whole thread lol. Returning to school would be the worst decision of his life. Cal all but came out and said all 6 are gone in the post game, joking that he has to go recruiting Friday now. Great points Vito but I've watched his game blossom over the season. In January all he had was lobs and put backs... By march he had a deadly mid range jumper and turn around jump hook. He was underutilized on offense IMO to keep the flow of the game better by not trying to force his possessions
I'm sure he won't ask my opinion... but I would encourage him to stay and develop some more. He'll get tossed around like a rag doll in the NBA.
I agree he got better. I didn't mean "limited" in a bad way necessarily. I don't think the guy has limits. He could become a serious talent once his game is more polished. Hell, he's just a kid. He just didn't dominate the offensive end the way he did the defensive end. Nothing wrong with that. He was a great team player and did what his team needed. He is an exceptional college player. I still think Durant was a better college freshman. He did things at the 4 position we had not seen in college before. We have seen tall/long guys dominate on defense. Difference with Davis is I think his ceiling is higher than those we have seen in the past. And the way he runs the floor.
When he will go #1, why not develop with NBA coaches? Any injury is always a second away. Ask Oden. If he stayed another year he wouldn't be a multi-millionaire. Only reason a player should stay (outside of education) is the increase his stock. Davis' can't get any higher. I don't think he will necessary get tossed around. He could guard the 3 or 4 position.
I think some people are still brainwashed into thinking to go pro you must be impactful, if not an all star from day 1. The NBA drafts kids based on what they think they will become, not on what they are. It's all about draft potential as Vito points out. We are encouraging these kids to stay in school to earn degrees that MIGHT make them 50-60K a year after 4 years in college when they have multi million dollar contracts waiting on them immediately. Why do we keep fooling ourselves into thinking an "education" is valuable to NBA talented basketball players?
T, I know where your coming from and agree but I am of the opinion that these players would benefit greatly from an education and degree from college. Especially if they recieve a buisness and accounting degree. Maybe we would hear about fewer former players being broke when they retire. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
You can take a boy out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the boy. Sometimes, people just aren't smart. Going to business classes in college won't change the fact that if you attempt to pay for an entourage your whole life, your money will deplete eventually. I do think there are intangibles of life you learn during college, (just ask me, Im becoming a professional student at this point)....but I would trade my degree for a $5 million guaranteed contract in a heartbeat. It'd take me 40 years of salary to earn that, and I am going to have a doctorate degree. A business degree would take like 75 years to earn that. You can go back and earn a degree easily later in life, your window as a healthy able body to earn NBA money is a narrow window and should be taken advantage of.
Like I said. I know where your coming from and agree. BUT, a little maturity can go a long way when handed that kind of money. 4 years of maturity along with a little education could do wonders for some. However, guaranteed money can't be turned down for what ifs. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I really don't think there is a big difference in what you'll do with your money btween 19 and 22. Some guys will be good with their money and some won't.
Depends on what lifes lessons are learned in that 3 years. I wish I had those 3 years back to make better decisions. I could be retired right now. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I agree. I dont' see what the point of staying another year would do. He's clearly the number one pick. He won a NC. His stock can't get any higher than it is (if anything coming back could hurt). He's not staying until he graduates. So what does another year do for him? Nothing.... bye bye.
I get what your saying, but I just don't think you learn many life lessons in your last three years of college that can prepare you for being an instant millionaire. Unless, learning what classes are okay to skip, which professors are the easiest to take, which classes you can get away with not buying the book, which liquor store has the best deals, which bars has the best looking girls, and in Hooker's case...how to avoid getting tea bagged, will help with your new found fame and fortune.
This is what I was thinking as I was reading through this thread....I'm on track to make around $4-5 million in my life time...these kids have that right now with a signature. Sign me up!!!!!
