I may not speak for all of the state but there is alot of guys that feel the way i do about the nw district hunting seasons. the rut may start earlier in the year in the east but up in the hills where we live they dont start really rutting until the seasons over in dec. i know that they are talking bout making all legal weapons until jan.1 but thats doesnt cut it around here cause its not cold enough its still pre-rut but thats not the same as getting to hunt deer in eastern nc during the rut any advice?
i'm didnt mean that what i meant is that the state is extending all legal weapons (gun season) til jan.1 which means bows to but it s just about the time the rut starts up here sorry for the misunderstanding!
mnkk did you see the new regulations that they are trying to pass ? they are going to take a week off of bow season for the muzzelloaders
Is there really that many of them (MZer's)? I get what you were saying now... That's just peachy! But I thought we (bowhunters) could go during any open season? I wouldn't worry too much about them. Just use them to push deer to you?! lol. I found some game land around Butner-Falls of Neuse, that are Archery only. It's like 15 minutes from my house. There is an Archery only area, between the open to anything areas. I thought that was kind of cool. I could sit there, and wait for the rifle hunters to go in/out, and kick the deer over to me?! Unless of course they shoot them... then it really doesn't work all that well now, does it? I also read that they are (hopefully) opening up hunting on private lands, to Sundays too...
While I agree that you are likely seeing rutting activity in your area, past the general season. I know you're also able to hunt the rut, there. I see rutting activity (pre-rut) starting around the last week of Oct.. I see rutting activity (bucks still chasing) through our closer (I've seen it on 12/16). Two things I think are positives: An extended season (to the end of the year in the NW district) would allow hunters to hunt the Christmas and NY's holidays with loved ones. Sunday hunting is currently law (as stated - private lands, bowhunting). Unless legislature is introduced to block it (in the general assembly), it's going to happen.
