The amazing thing is this guy is a racists and yet he depends on the race he does not want to be around to provide the services he needs to be succesful. But I think the market should dictate whether or not he has to sell. Forcing the sale of any private enterprise is scary IMHO.
The same concept still applies, they work for him. He makes billions, they make millions, pennies to him.
Even when it is done by the private governing body of that enterprise? It feels like a lot of you guys think the US government is handling the punishment.
If the governing body of the league owned the team that would be one thing, but I do not believe that to be the case. If he was a pedophile that would be one thing. When I hear things like," now the healing can begin" i think this situation has been blown out of proportion.
He had to sign a contract with that governing body before he bought the team. The NBA has power over him by contract.
I would imagine the contract is subject to interpretation. What next, the Orlando Magic owner has donated money to preserve traditional marriage, are they next on the list? I mean opposition to redifining marriage is the same as racism to some.
Of course its up for interpretation, but there is a governing body voting on it. ALL laws are up for interpretation.
I don't know. I'm not the NBA commissioner nor do I get offended by easily. I have no idea what the next faux outrage will be.
There are plenty of non government governing bodies that businesses are a part of.... This seems to be the first time I've EVER seen where said enterprise can force the sale of one of its members by vote of the others. What if the other teams get together and vote out the Lakers/Celtics ownership because they win too much and they simply cite they don't reflect the image the league as a whole is going for. I can see revoking the Clippers membership to the NBA if he doesn't sell, but being able to force him to sell his company that he is the sole owner of seems ludicrous...
I guess they could try, but I'm sure they would lose in a lawsuit. I do agree that this does set a dangerous precedent for the new commissioner.
I just hope this strong move by the new commissioner helps his relationship w players union so he can push through the 2 year rule which he said is a priority for him. Would be amazing for college basketball if NBA chose to go this route.
