I knew about it, but i don't understand what that matters? David Stern brushed his antics aside because he didn't want the drama. I think the new commissioner just made a huge mistake. Sterling is going to sue, and win. And his girlfriend will probably get in some trouble for the illegal recordings. And? You do understand that a large number of 80 year old men are still racist and/or use the terminology/mindset that they grew up with without thinking twice about it? And its not illegal.
From what I have heard there is nothing he can sue the NBA about so far. It would just go to an arbitrator and he will lose. Hey, I don't even like the NBA or care one way or another what happens to Sterling. Just telling like it is in the corporate world.
I do believe the NBA has every right to ban him from all owner activities. He tarnished the NBA's image and now he won't be a part of NBA meetings, etc. What I don't think they have a right to do is force Sterling to sell the team. Banning him for life means that you have to maintain the zero tolerance policy throughout the NBA - with players, coaches, and owners. If not, the gap will only increase.
Zero tolerance on what? Racism? Homophobia? Gang related activity? Sexual misconduct? There are already a ton of racist players/coaches in the NBA and even more homophobics...not to mention the gang affiliations or the sexual deviants. I think they are just making an example of an unliked old white guy.
Here's the deal, he was in his own house and a private conversation. I don't agree with his views, but anybody has the right to say what they want in private and their own house. If he stated what he did in a public forum, it's a different story.
This will be in the courts. An arbitrator will not settle this. The NBA will have to show he hurt their product which I don't think they can do. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Right on. The commish should have said...."i cant do anything about what he says in private, ill leave that up to HIM to explain". And ended it right there. That would be the appropriate way to handle it.
But they are costing him money...are they not? I guess i dont know the rules of the NBA owners but couldn't he technically sue for harassment? What he said was recorded illegally in private, the commish came out publically and is asking the other owners to force him into selling.
That was my original point. He who is without sin shall cast the first stone type of situation. Whats stopping Sterling from hiring 30 private detectives to go around filming everything the other owners and the commish say in private for the next year and release it all in movie theaters or the internet? Something obviously has to be done here or it could get really ugly for the NBA...
I thought it came out that he knew he was being recorded? And he is going to sue, no doubt about that.
I thought we weren't allowed to quote ESPN here because its a bull**** rag filled with one-sided media? LOL
He knew he was being recorded, which kind of negates much of his defense in it not being shared. wiretapping laws. Federal laws.
