Sure they can. As long as they dont get called for travel and are allowed to carry the ball. Isnt allowed in any conference around here. Thank goodness. Our Highschools still play basketball.
No, you don't understand, they can and should be able to go the length of the court in 3 dribbles. You can easily EASILY get from the NBA three to the rim in 1, its all about mastering the footwork. Trust me bro, I'm very, very right on this one. Attend any camp/clinic with college/pro coaches and they'll say grassroots players should take 4 (1 for every quarter of the quart) HS and college guys should take 3.
My vote goes to the NCAA. March Madness is tops, bar none. Even the smaller schooles can make a run, which makes for more exciting games. Give the NBA credit though, those guys (most of them anyway) are very very athletic.
No, I do understand. I understand that it is allowed now, but I also know that it is physically impossible to go the length of the court in three dribbles without carrying the ball at some point or traveling. Again, its not allowed in our conference for Highschool basketball. They tend to actually stick to original rules of the game. Just like you shouldnt be able to change direction twice without dribbling the ball. However, it happens all the time now but not without "carrying" the ball. Which, ofcourse, is supposed to be an infraction of the rules. It just isnt called much anymore. Bro.
Then why dont you two explain it, because I obviously dont have the intelligence to get it. Maybe you could provide a few examples of how any athlete, pro or otherwise, can cover 94 feet or even 84 feet in three dribbles without "carrying" the ball. In the strict sense of the rules, it cant be done. Please prove me wrong. By the way. In the strict sense of the rules, you may not take more than 1 and a half steps without dribbling the ball. Now, do that and cover 90 feet. As long as your strides are twenty feet or more, that shouldnt be a problem. My point is merely that I dont like the game at the NBA level because it have moved so far away from the what basketball was. Lazy enforcement of rules, lazy defense, etc. You may not understand if your only reference is what you have seen in the last 10 or 15 years.
Watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHceOvR464s 6 Dribbles WITH a behind the back and changing directions two times and catching the ball facing the opposite basket and he's a 6'0 guard. Imagine Lebron, starting facing the basket with no change of direction or any moves, you think he couldn't cut that number in half? This kid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ESD8t4sY6w&list=UU1jg_lg63CgGYUWQn4qGqWg&index=13&feature=plcp go to the 2:20 mark, this kid here who looks slow as Christmas does it in 3 and he's dribbling TWO balls. I'm sure your Iowa Attack guys could do it in 3 if that kid can
You should wear a bracelet that says; WWHD. (What would Hooker do) Or maybe a T-shirt that says; I'm with Hooker. Thanks for the laugh Bro.
He does it in three from the opposite foul line and "carries" the ball by dribbling it clear to the top of his head. Not a good example. His hands come below the center of the ball. Just saying, there isnt a ref in our conference that wont call a carry if you go coast to coast in 3. My business partner is a ref and just confirmed it. I'm not saying it doesnt happen and not get called in many areas. Wont wash here. Just sayin its lazy officiating but it gets overlooked because it makes for more action. Guess I am just a purist when it comes to the rules of the game and hate to see them stretched. The whole contact thing is another story. By the way, if you dont get it, we will have to agree to disagree as I am getting bored with this.
We'll agree to disagree man. You guys keep doing your thing in the basketball mecca of Iowa and I'll keep instructing grassroots, collegiate athletes and pros in the way that is the globally accepted manner
Agreed. But you are confused about one more thing. Iowa is ONLY a mecca for one thing............WHITETAILS! lol Now I just have to look behind the right tree this late season and find one. Thanks for the PM. That was classy.
The 3 point line, dunking, and shot clock has really ruined the game of basketball. It's just awful these days. These damn kids and their ADD need to see some 115 - 108 game. Basketball should be 32 - 26 at the end of the game!
College basketball but I do like to sit down and watch some simian day night football, that never gets old. I don't even watch MLB till playoffs. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=40.474928,-81.956441
You got the A.D.D. part right. You kids have to have some type of entertainment going on every waking minute or you pout about being bored.
