Anyone follow the first 2 races this year? Daytona had a heck of a finish, with Jamie Mac holding off a run by Jr. Fontana held true to tradition...blown engines and Jimmie Johnson in victory lane, but a pretty boring race overall, except for Harvick and Burton's little run late. The season is still early, but it looks as if the Hendrick team may have some competion from the RCR cars this year. The Roush team still seems like they are missing something (as was the case with most of last year) with their 4 drivers, and Fontana is usually a track they dominate at.
Yeah, we're fans. We've watched the first two races....and even watched "that chick's" races (in part). Too early to see any trends. I just hope Jr.'s yr changes for the better. Rick's a good man. And, I know this is wearing on him (Jr., too). Yesterday looked all too familiar.
I decided that I'm going to start following racing again. I used to love it but I couldn't stand what it had turned into. I'm not a fan of the car of tomorrow, but they are changing it some. I'm a Harvick fan, and I really felt that he had the best car in BOTH races so far. He reeled Johnson in QUICK in those final 10 laps at Fontana but when he got on his bumper he got a little loose and caught the wall and lost ground. In Daytona, he probably had the fastest car again, but chose to block the wrong line of traffic and got shuffled back on the final green white checker. I think Harvick will have a good year this year, especially if they go back to the regular spoiler along with the other changes they have made.
You got to run out front because who wants to see someone's left turn signal on for 400 miles I quite going and watching nascar, it's all about not crashing the first 350 miles and to many drivers tend to wipe out half the field at a time when it happens. love them engines, friend of mine has a dyno shop for dirt track and pulling truck motors and buys a lot of last years nascar stuff to run mainly for the pulling trucks program because of non compete deals they make him sign.
My thoughts so far: Jeff Gordon must be declining. 2 bad races coming off 2 "off" years (1 win in 2 seasons...yikes) Jimmie Johnson is the greatest ever...yada yada For Jr's sake, i hope he has a top 5 season with a few wins. Hes better then what hes been since about 2005 or so....way better (i hope). Logano will be along a long time
Hes a 4 time Champion...about to clip the record for modern day wins. Some guys are held up to an impossible standard (Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Micheal Phelps, Peyton Manning, Jeff Gordon, Apollo Anton Ono). Not winning is a Fail. Of course i could point out that if we kept the standard system in place, Gordon would have 6 championships and Johnson only 2
Gordon's engine failed him Sunday (which is fairly normal for Fontana), not his skills. I would agree with Matt on Harvick though. He had the fastest car at Daytona and Fontana. Daytona is all about who is helping who in that final push, he was just in the wrong line. He SHOULD of beat Jimmie too this past week.
Harvick caught Jimmie in a HURRY at the end of the Fontana race, if only he hadn't cli[[ed the wall. So far, things are looking good for Harvick fans. I just hope he doesn't fall off like usual.
