I was talking to a bow tech. the other day and he claims that this years 100 gr. thunderheads tend to "airplane" out of his new bows (bow tech and hoyt) due to a longer shaft than the older style. He is shooting 60# draw. Also he says that he has used these BH's for years and really liked them and they shot really good from other bows but can't use them anymore. Anyone else having issues like this as I was considering using them this year?

I'm shooting them for the first time this year and they're hitting where I am aiming and I am shooting a Diamond Rock at 70#

I'm also intrigued by the Thunderheads as well. Mainly cuz they give you 6 in a pack for $40 rather than only 3. I initially bought a 3 pk of Magnus Stinger's but lost one in a friends shed and another is bent at the tip from a misfire into the ground while practicing so I am looking to bet more broadheads.

The guys issues are more likely to tuning and/or lack of FOC for the arrows he's shooting. FOC makes a bigger difference than most people realize. And just 25gr can and does make a difference depending on the arrow weight.

    Falcon,
Try a pack of Slick Tricks, they fly as well as anything I've shot, and are tough as anything I've shot.

Thunderheads haven't changed their design in many years. The guy you talked to is wrong.

The new Thunderhead Edge actually has a short ferrule than traditional Thunderheads have always had.

I used to have a hell of a time tuning Thunderheads out of my old Hoyt Striker. Bow was tuned great. I even tuned it 3 times because the heads were flying so erratic. Switched to Spitfires for a year because I was so frustrated, then went to Muzzys, and they flew like fieldpoints.

Got a new bow since then, and still shooting the Muzzys. Can't find a single reason to switch.

I shoot 100 grain Thunderheads out of an older reflex (which is just a hoyt) and they hit well. I do sometimes get one stray out of a tight group, but even this stray is still within the vitals on a full deer target at 30 yards. I only have pins set out to 35 yards, as thats all Im comfortable shooting in hunting situations anyways.
