Hey guys so I'm switching to NAP products next season but my rest just recently went to crap I'm looking toward NAP for the rest of the season and seasons to follow any auggestions on tests that are high quality and somewhat affordable I've seen some members of the your team using the Apache ?
For the price you're hard pressed to beat the original Apache dropaway. It's built like a tank and I've yet to see one fail no matter how many times it's shot. I believe they retail for around $60. The only knock on them is they're a touch heavy, and some don't like the fact that you load the arrow from the top of the rest instead of the side. Personally it's never bothered me one bit.
Thanks Justin this is what I'm looking for my pro shop is trying to head me in the ripcord direction but I really like the look of the NAP Apache and I like the price point it seems to be quiet and work well
NAP Apache -- quiet, reliable, and inexpensive. I've got them on 2 of my bows, and I have no plans of ever changing them out.
Have you or Justin ever had an issue with rust with these rest I've heard of one person on a thread that had that issue with this rest I've never had an issue with rust on any rest except my whisker biscuit that is like 8 years old on my other bow
I have rust issues on the nuts/bolts of just about every archery accessory I've ever owned. Sights, rests, quivers, etc. I've started coating as many of them as I can with bow string wax to help prevent it. I typically re-apply it every couple of weeks during the season. It's never affected functionality, it's just a cosmetic thing. Why more companies don't use stainless hardware, or something that won't rust, is beyond me.
Thanks for the tip I'll do that from now on and well you have done a good job between you and Richie music who I contact frequently on facebook you guys have me sold on the apache especially cuz I'm a lefty and I can't get the carbon
Jesse....I see Justin already answered your question...and his suggestion to use string wax on the hardware is a good one. I typically put a drop or two of RemOil on a Q-Tip...and swirl it around on the various nuts/bolts (just a minimal light coat) once a year or so - and have no problems with rust.
Do you do it on the actual part of the bolt that goes into the bow I'm assuming ? And then every so often listen it up and retighten it ?
#truth On lower priced accessories I can understand it. But I've had gear that I've paid several hundred dollars for and for that price you'd expect some better hardware. I do like the suggestion of the gun oil on a q-tip. I use Dead Down Wind odorless oil on a lot of my gear, which I'm assuming may work the same way. I'm going to give it a try.
I just ordered the Apache Micro rest and got it last night. It's built like a tank, and I'm a big fan of the elevation/windage adjustment units. No tools required, super smooth adjustments, and there is no way this thing is moving on you once locked down. There is also no place for an arrow to contact and make noise that isn't covered by their sound deadening material. For a hunting rest, this thing is solid and I'd buy another if I was in the market to setup another bow.
I used Ballistol on some of my bolts after they started to rust after getting wet during turkey season. Took care of the rust and doesn't have much of an odor.
Update, I got the rest all set up and it is great and shooting awesome. Absolutely love this product will be getting more defiantly for my HTX in December
