Put the Apache on my new BowMadness...ran a few shots through it outside - initially lived up to the hype for being rock solid and as quiet as they come. But I saw my arrow kicking some. Took it to paper tune - something that typically takes me about 5 arrows...I have run 100+ arrows through the paper with the Apache. 1.5" right tear no matter where I position rest right/left adjustment. I ran the draw cord many different ways as well...to pulling up launcher at last micro-sec to pulling up early and tighter. 3 different spines of arrows, with 100 - 200gr tips, bare shaft & fletch...tried it all...dead right tear. I have never had a torque issue so I thought I'd take the rest off...put on a $15 TM hunter style rest and within 4 arrows I'm shooting bullet holes. Any ideas?

First time I have ever tried a drop-away (and was reluctant to anyway)...anyone else have a similar experience?

Might have an Apache with about 150 shots on it to highest bidder - still have package, arrow holder, and all...I really just want full-capture and clearance for 4" helical vanes...any suggestions?

are you shooting withthe cock vane up or down?
I know alot of guys that use drop aways think its ok to have them down but I really think it should always be up.
I shot mine to try it for you and with the vane down my arrow tailed everytime.
    hope this helps. good luck

    Matt,

Are you getting fletch contact anywhere? Is the rest dropping fast enough? On my eighty pound X I had to go to a biscuit because I could not get a drop away to move quick enough.

I'll be interested to hear what resolves the problem...obviously something that doesn't drop works. Don't knock all drop aways for the ills of one. Keep trying.

I have a Phantom rest I'll send you, if you want to give it a try.

i had the same problem and it was fixed easy i had the cock fletch down. with a drop away it has to be up or you will hit your rest every time. i cant think of anything else that would make it shoot like that. i hope you find out the problem soon

    Matt,
This is part of the reason that you can find so many Trophy Taker SHAKY Hunter rests for cheap, that big WIDE "V" in that rest isn't consistent. I'm surprised I hadn't heard more "issues" with them because that "V" or "tongue is so wide I'd EXPECT that it would be inconsistent.

Try a Shaffer Drop-Away or a Trophy Taker Pronghorn and you'll be much happier. As for Full containment, I have a Kaz-Away I could send you to try out, but I like Trophy Taker and Shaffer better, SHAFFER being the BEST in my opinion....

WBs fix all the problems BOWHUNTERS have with hunting accuracy. I hear 50% of the world hates them the other love um. Ive been shooting them for 10 years with no issues once I went to Blazzer vanes. Rain, snow dont matter arrow is waitin there for ya everytime.

m_p...yes, I have it set up for Cock vane up. I did all the test with chalk to make sure no contact issues...and then went to bare shaft as well. Not a clearance issue...

No fletch contact...and assuming rest drops fast enough - which I even tried bare shaft as well with same results...I'm baffled.
In no way am I categorizing all drop-a-ways (or saying the Apache is at fault)...I'm just having issues with it.

I've always been a "Keep it simple" guy - that's why I initially stayed away from drop-a-ways...less moving parts to go wrong. I've always got what I needed out of a prong style rest for deer hunting...but in stalk situations I would really like full containment. But I also like 4" full helical vanes which typically get contact with stationary containment like Hostage, 360, or Biscuit rests. If I can get the broadhead stability I want from offset vanes, maybe one of these rests would work.

I have still yet to try blazer type vanes as I want the tightest fixed blades groups as possible out to 50 yards.

The best part is that it's April - I have tons of time - and will get this right. The prongs work for now while I try to get the Apache or other drop away working. I'm in love with the BowMadness, the speed/power, the "lock-in" at full draw, and even when rest not tuned - it was stacking arrows.

I have always avoided the bowshops...might need to make a trip and try some other rests out.

any other opinions, I'd love to hear them.

Doug - I agree...it seems a "tighter V" to hold the arrow would be more consistent (like the QAD's). Thanks for the advice on the others...let me see what I can get my hands on around here first.

I still don't think it's the rest design...what are the odds that the launcher cord is pulling on my cable such that it would be torquing my bow or causing a timing issue? It does seem that my Apache requires a very hard pull with my hand to stand it all the way up?

Again - I appreciate all comments!

I'd assume it's launcher more than the cord pulling or something.... I've set up and tuned quite a few rests, and the SHAKY HUNTER (which has a wide tongue/launcher) was the worst as far as consistency. I REALLY like the Shaffers, but even something like a NAP 2000 isn't bad, but the ability to adjust windage and elevation independent of each other is paramount in getting tuned a little quicker for me....

Couple things you could try. Do a walk back tune and see if that fixes it. I'm not saying paper tuning is bad but if you move the paper closer or farther away you can make the paper rip however you want. A walk back tune should have you shooting pin holes in 10 min. The other thing I would do is double check the rope serving, make sure the rest is all the way up right before you come to full draw.

I've talked to a lot of people and I have never heard of anyone having an issue with them. So as far as the inconsistent remark goes I would have to say that just ain't true. That Apache will make you more accurate and consistent.

walk back would be my next suggestion also.
paper tuning in my opinion is not a good idea slight movment or torque by you and your shot can look terrible.
If you do go with a wb try using a quick fletch they hold up to the wear and tear better with them.

I had the same problems til i went to blazers and an extra dot of glue on the leading edge of the vane. I didnt mean to say ALL i meant to say alot. I just read that and it didnt come out right. I use the wb for my deer heads as well as my turkey arrows full length 4" 4 feathers with a bullhead. Dont even touch a thing both are same spot to 20 yards. Alot of guys dont like them and I understand that but they are great for me.

I think you missed the part where he was able to tune another rest, just not the Apache....

And that WIDE tongue will indeed result in a bit of inconsistency.... I've seen it myself, with a Shaky Hunter, yet never had a problem w/ a Pronghorn launcher/tongue on the SAME REST!!!

I think Matt knows what he's doing, he was able to accomplish what he needed to with other rests, it's just this Apache that he's having the issue with....

check the draw cord, I had to split my down cable and tie mine in - simply lashing it down didn't get me a consistent drop/pull it was slipping

I did split cable and serve in first thing...it definitely was getting consistent pull and standing launcher into full/locked position...

Yes he remark about one other rest. Btw thousands of people have put this on there bow and I am one of them. Like I said before I have never heard on a Apache not tuning so I would say your Theory is way off and more than likely you have never used one. It wouldn't matter if the V was a foot wide. It will still sit in the bottom of the V ever time. Gravity is your friend on this one. If drop away rest didn't give you tighten groups they wouldn't be so popular.

Matt, Is the arrow lining up with the engraved laser tuning marks? I had a 2010 pse vendetta that I waited close to two months for the apache to come out and it would't fit with pse low cable guard. The rest would bolt up but it would need to be so far off the laser marks that I knew it wasn't going to tune. I was lucky enough to have bob mizak from NAP come and look at it. He agree'd that the cable guard would cause a untunable condition. I also have seen this on a Pse axe 6 but not as severe. I'd look and see if this is your problem if it is the only choice you have is a different rest. Nap hooked me up with a scissors rest which will most likely be the last rest I ever own. Good luck hope this helps.

I hear what you're saying, but I can only speak from my experience in not feeling like I got overly good consistency out of a Shaky Hunter launcher, and the launcher style on the Apache is similar.... Not a point of contention really, just an observation. I've also heard several guys on AT say that they had issues w/ PSE's not tuning well and in the end had a weak limb, a Y-cable adjustment that was needed, etc, which could be the issue, however, if he can get it tuned with one and not the other, and he's not having fletch contact, then it narrows down where the issue may be.... In the end, I offered to send him a different style rest to give a shot.... I like the design of the Apache except the launcher, and in all honesty, the launcher is on of the big reason I shy''d away from them.

The issue may not be as noticeable when just shooting fieldpoints and not paper-tuning the bow, just zero-ing a pin and doing a walk-back or whatever, however if fine tuning the bow or Broadhead tuning, I can see where it would start to show up moreso.... And so say "THOUSANDS of people...." really holds no water to me, because there are MANY, MANY, MANY people who have absolutely NO IDEA how to tune a bow in the first place....
