Good luck, The way I see it you owe it to an animal you decide to shoot to do everything possible to make a clean ethical shot. And then everything you can to recover that animal. Watch a bunch of videos and read as much as you can so you know what to do next time. One thing about videos is many times they make it look easy. Its harder than it looks for sure. A square target vs a live animal is a huge difference. I hope you missed and find the arrow clean. I have missed a few times and until I find my arrow I can't rest. I have also lost deer. That is a sick feeling. I never want to release an arrow or bullet without being sure of my shot. But it happens. You just have to do your best to avoid it. Shoot within your comfortable range and lanes and pass on anything else (this is hard sometimes but important) Let us know what your find. I am interested for sure. If I were closer I'd come help look.

I met Tink too. Good guy. He lent a friend of mine a cross bow after he had a car accident and lost several fingers. Good guy. Unfortunately he doesn't make much or anything off Tink's 69. I believe he sold those rights off early on and didn't do to well on it.

Aim low on any deer has worked for me, would rather miss low than high anyday.

You should not be shooting for arteries and spinal cords. NOT AN ETHICAL ARCHERY SHOT!

The red and pink in this image is all vitals and is the kill zone.

Agreed, hold for the heart, so if/when that deer drops some you are still taking out both lungs and likely top of heart

I agree I would not aim where you did but I am glad you are open to hearing all these tips and knowledge. I know it can be hard to hear but these guys just want to help you become a better bow hunter. Good luck on the recovery!

Sucks that you lost the deer, but sounds like you are humble and willing to learn from your mistakes.

Just remember, it's better to learn from others mistakes when you can.

    Good luck!!!

It damn sure is. I've wounded deer before and not recovered them, but I always think how I made their lives miserable. To me it's a big letdown.
I can't figure why you would be aiming at the shoulder? That probably accounts for that "smack" you heard. Aim for the heart/lung area!

Aim where I have the blue dot. Because deer don’t come with the painted blue dot I try and aim for the back of the front leg. And 1/3 up on the deer.

If you are shooing at a steep angle down you may want to aim just a bit higher.
