Just a quick intro. My name is Brandon. I have been shooting bows now for probably twenty years now. I never had land or time to really bow hunt so I have only shot one doe and hit but never recovered a button buck. It ran off with my arrow and luminock. Anyway, I have finally gotten the opportunity and land to seriously bow hunt. This year it all came together the morning before our MO gun season. I saw a shooter buck around 150 yds away in the trees. A quick grunt got his attention and a series of aggressive grunts made him come in on a string. A quick spray of "Buck Bomb" since he was down wind sealed the deer. As I watched him come closer, my hear was beating and I began praying. He stopped thirty yards behind my treestand and chewed on a small cedar. He finally began to walk into the little field i was in. As he entered my shooting area, I yelled "HEY" to stop him and watched the arrow sink into his vitals (Slight quartering away shot). He ran off into the woods and I bleated at him. He stops and then disappears. I never see or hear any noise other than a slight rustling. The thing is that my cell phone gets no service and my hunting buddies are not coming to get me for another three to four hours. I had only been in my stand for about thirty minutes. I am giddy and can't tell anybody about it. It took all my willpower to stay in my tree and wait until my buddies come to track it. Blood trail is good and we find the buck piled up right in the tree line. I think I might have scared all the other deer with my yell of excitement. Anyway, all ends well as I am able to get my first bow hunted buck as well as a buck of my dreams. And the season is not even over!
That is a dandy... first bow buck... I think I hate this guy already... (Just kidding... congratulations... really!)
Thank you. That is kind of what I am thinking. My first bow buck and I have to go bigger now. Kinda limits my options, LOL.
Very nice! Congratulations on your first archery buck. You have now been assimilated.............resistance is futile...........welcome to the wonderful world of successful bowhunting!
Thank you to all. The one thing I forgot was that I got a GoPro Hero 3 camera for this season. I had it mounted on my bow and plenty of time to turn it on. I turned it on and was tracking the deer. After I shot the deer in a wide open area, I went to check my camera and somehow even though I had pushed the button, I did not turn it on. Argggg. I almost had the buck on camera for the shot. Oh well, live and learn.
