Shoulda read this b4 posted my question on scrapes ha. Nice write-up pretty much answered my questions, thanks.
thanks guys, hope any of it can help, its not magic and doesnt always work but when done right ...you can really get a buck hooked to a specific area and alot earlier in the season than most would believe..
When making mock scrapes and licking branches what i do is..I have 2 properties i hunt with different deer groups. so i cut a in use licking branch from 1 area and use it in the other area. I zip strip it to a branch. I also take dirt from the scrape put it in a zip lock baggie and use it on my mock scrape..that way i have scent from a different buck on the licking branch and in the soil...
Thank you Troy, I have had some success with Mock Scrapes, yet your writings have given me the "Big Picture" which will allow for a more strategic use of this tactic. Mijman
Velvet bucks hammer licking branches especially july/august , I like freshening or starting new ones in the spring.. get that licking branch scent out there
Seems like some great information. I have always wanted to try alternatives to bait hunting. I think this may be the ticket!
You guys seem to like these and they were on $3 bucks at Richards sporting goods so I picked Up a few packs ! What really sold me on these though is the fact they use BFS
I may have missed this but just wondering when you change your dripper liquid from buck urine to like rut liquid/doe estrus?
This article explained a lot thanks! I understand why we are just getting night time pictures on our property. Ours is only a small farm with one ridgeline paralleling a creek. Not much room to put in a scrape in a place where we can hang a stand and manage to get there without disturbing the peace of the bush. Its quite a thinker for me. We have one scrape by a lone tree beside the creek that's been used for years since we've had permission on the property and a new one just popped up in a field.im stumped as to how to approach this but I'll figure something out. Great post!!!
That ridge sounds like a great transitioning corridor for cruising bucks tho? Is it heavily covered or more open?
