jag mag, I like em close as possible but I'm good to 25 yards and in, very confident. I don't look at it as yards, either I can make the shot or I can't. Yes I only shoot and hunt with my longbows and maybe a recurve every so often. I have a compound as well but its been collecting dust ever since I first shot a longbow, never touched it since, no desire to! Handicap... what handicap??? :d I hunt with a longbow because I enjoy it and its too much fun!

I would love to do it....after about 6 months of practice riding a horse. I haven't ridden horses for 15 years. I slowly find myself moving backwards with my equipment over the years....went from a rifle to a shotgun, then from a muzzleloader to bow only for the last 4 seasons. I could easily see myself going to a recurve in the next 2-3 years.

I think about this alot..not so much the buffalo and self-bows, but what the land was like back then. I can be way back in the bush and think I'm seeing the land like the early settlers, imagining a world without concrete and cars. It's aw inspiring, and then I look down and see a milky way wrapper and realize it's not quite the same after-all.

Depends on the day. Before I go on a hunt I shoot a good bunch of arrows and try to leave on a good note. Some days my effective range Is 15 yards, the next day It might be 20 yards and sometimes but not all to often It can be 25 yards. On the average It's usually 20 yards and nothing more.

    Haven't owned a compound since 1995.

I shoot a recurve because It fits my hunting style better then a compound. No doubt the challenge Is much tougher then It Is with a compound, that right there makes It exciting as heck when you have an animal In front of you. There's also a few advantages shooting a traditional bow but for the most part I choose a recurve because I'm not Into all the stuff that's associated with compounds these days, to much technology for me. Hunting with a compound wasn't ever easy for me, It was just easier then what I choose as a bow now. Each to there own though, we all have our likes and dislikes.
