How intense would it be to ride horseback across the prairie with in a herd of 1000 Buffalo with nothing more than buckskin clothing, a hand crafted long bow, wooden arrows with napped heads and a knife all of which you fashioned from animal hide, wood, stone and bone?

People used to live this way and I cannot even fathom what it would be like for one day, let alone to survive.

Scott I have often wondered this myself, life had to be tough back then. I think JMbuckhunters property housed ALOT of prehistoric Indians back in the day! per the flint finds he comes up with and teases me with :hater:

What is the difference between a hand crafted long bow and a hand crafted self bow?

I kill buffalo while standing just a few feet away from them. I wrestle them to me with a line attached to my arrow. Sometimes I'm barefoot and wearing nothing but shorts and a tank top. hee hee hee..

Longbows and recurve's are glued together. The Indians didn't glue together longbows back In the day. They carved out wood making a self bow (primitive). Big difference between the 2.

Either way It doesn't matter, this Isn't the point anyway. I know what ya meant with the thread, I was just jiving ya some.;)

Just to be a complete pain in the rear... the native americans did glue laminate bows back in the day. They had horn bows and antler laminate bows. (but indeed most were plain, sinew or rawhide backed selfbows) ...and a longbow doesn't have to have any glue on it. Nor does a recurve. :D :D

BTW, the tank top thing...it's a scary sight Schultzy. ;)

How many of the trad guys, (myself included), would hunt this way, if it was an option?:deer:

I would too Steve. I would do it once just to see what it was like. I would hate to know my livelihood depended on the outcome though.:d

So how much of an advantage would it be to be in that same scenario but with an iron sighted lever action rifle and a blacksmith forged knife? :d

Fire up the time machine and lets go! I probably wouldn't live as long but I'm sure I would live more.

What is the range you guys shoot with these stick bows? Do you guys shoot these bows only or do you also have compounds? Why do you handicab your self? is it because your fore fathers shot them or is it because you thing compounds are to easy?
