This past weekend my wife and I bought our first pup together. A female (her choice) Golden Retriever.. She had the most moxie and curious personality of the bunch.. so I chose her (since I couldn't get a male). She'll be home in 4 weeks.. at which case I'll begin training her on shed finding skills.. I'm gonna make her a good one. I'll give progress of her and her shed training all summer long. Here is her tiny little self.
Awesome Mike! My homeboy Mark has been looking at Chocolate labs - for a shed dog. My golden is a lardass. He tips the scales at about a buck-twenty. I left for college and my mom never stopped feeding him. LOL She'll have an insatiable appetite - just go easy on the treats and keep your little girl slim and trim. Keep me posted on the training. It's all about consistency. You won't find an easier pup to train.
It will be alot of fun, get your wife to discpline the pup, then maybe down the line the dog will listen to her (as opposed to my situation, where the dog thinks my wifes commands are just suggestions...... )
Nice looking pup, hopes she ends up being a great shed hunter. Took my Black Lab/Black and Tan Coonhound and all she found was deer poop and a golf ball
Thank you gentlemen. I did want a Lab actually Fran.. but the wife is allergic to their coarse hair and drier skin.. she's not allergic to the thin hair on a Golden's however.. which prompted me to get one since they are so similar to Labs. I have the fence being put in within days and I can't wait to spend the summer with her in the back yard.. then in the field. Her father is part of a hunting line that spans back 5 generations... so she's got the instinct already. Can't wait.
No names chosen yet. My old man used to believe a dog had to earn its name.. and I kinda like that idea. I'll pick her up.. and give her a name within that week.. something that suits her. Something like.. "Craps o'lot".. or "chews on my shoe".:d
Wow Mike- My shed hunting hero now has a 4 legged friend that will now only increase his yearly shed totals and contribute to my feeling of inadequacy
