My son wants to start bow hunting he is 23 and small frame build his draw length is 30. And I was curious what would be a good bow to start him out with. He would be useing it for deer in NY. I'm open to all info.

You can get great used bows on here (classifieds) and Archerytalk.com.

Perfect world, you go to a pro shop and try out everything and drop $500-$2000. I started out with a piece of poo Bear Whitetail that was past it's time when I got it! It worked and would have killed a deer if I didn't suck so bad as hunter back then.

Stick with a good name though, i.e. Hoyt, Mathews, Bowtech (not neccessarily in that order).

Yea definitely stick with the main brands but look around at pro shops or forums for used bows.

A website that I like to use is called huntersfriend.com. I got my bow off of them with a ready made package when I first started to hunt. I did not know much about bows and that really helped me to learn as I hunted with the package that they set up for me. I can say now that I have learned a lot!

Small frame and 30" draw don't likely go together.........have him visit the local pro shop for some decent advice.

I'd recommend going to a pro also but remember that he is going to "sell" you what is in his shop(I'd do the same thing.). Before you go I'd figure out what his dominant eye is and shoot that eye.Ex.dominant right eye, then shoot right handed.I'm dom left eye but right handed everything.I originally bought a bow to shoot R handed because the pro never asked.I switched a year later and I'm glad I did.Alot better for me to shoot both eyes open...JMO
