We have a 600 acre farm we hunt and rarely get over to what we call "new ground" to hunt. My son was really wanting to hang another stand on this side of the farm so we loaded up yesterday afternoon and hung a stand in an area we had scouted a few weeks ago. He was just as involved as I was in the stand location. We let it set yesterday but he decided this afternoon he was going to sit in it. He didn't see anything until right before dark and had 3 bucks come in and he only got a shot at the smallest of the bunch but it was a nice 2 year old (I think). He told me he drew early while it was behind a tree. He claims he was at full draw for over a minute but I imagine it was more like 15 seconds:D He put the arrow right in the shoulder and took out the heart. When he called me , the rack was past his ears and bigger than his sister's from a few years ago. When I walked up on it a 100 yards down the blood trail, I told him that no way this was his deer because it wasn't bigger than his sister's. :D We determined it was a bad case of ground shrinkage but we don't care. And for reference, here is his sister's gun kill from a few years ago. So yea, he had some ground shrinkage.:D Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Love to see the young generation not only hunting, but harvesting. Props to him and goodluck in the future!
If it were managed even a little there would be many big mature bucks harvested but the farmer wants them killed so most shoot anything that walks. 54 last year Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
