ITs always a humbling experience to view wiaxle's pics and finds, and then look at myself in the mirror and realize what a complete, utter, failure I have become. :smash:

I've logged about 6.5 hours so far with no luck. I haven't really covered much ground, just combing over a couple travel corridors close to a food plot where we have gotten some pics of a couple younger bucks that have shed. I don't want to dive in to deep just yet.

Yes, please post pics of what they look like before you move them.
Are these sheds really hidden? Or can you see them fairly easily?

Here is a thread on the pics of a few that I have found before I picked them up

    ATL <----click me

I try to snap a photo of the sheds from where I see them, if they are really far off, I will zoom up in on them with the camera, but even then they really don't show up all that well, but that is why I carry binoculars.

It does get a bit easier once the snow goes out to see them, but you really have to cover ALOT more ground, deep snow really restricts where you might find sheds, but on the down side, smaller sheds will be covered pretty easily. Best way to find them is to get out there and put the time in.

Here is a thread I found on alot of ATL photos of non-snow pictures. These are pretty close to what I see (except they are alot bigger than what I find)

    click me again

If there is not a deer in the photo, there is shed if you look close enough.

It is a matter of training your eye to find that little bone in the background of the woods.

I have found that it usually takes a 2-3 years of walking a property to figure out where the best places are to find sheds, but then that is just a place to check, bone can drop anywhere.

deershed is a shed hunting machine/manic when it comes to finding sheds. Usually a 100 plus every year. Great guy and also has taken some very nice bucks with bow.

Got out for a little bit this afternoon.

Saw this little guy at about 40 yards, pretty sure this is the other half of the buck my father found on Sunday (the dead buck :( )

Scored it at 70 5/8" so add in the 67 3/4" the other half was, and guessing the width at about 19" we lost a 158"ish (a monster for our area) or a probably booner next season.

Thinking I saw this buck in the woods on 1/18/09, he had one horn at the time, so the shed was laying there for a while, critters did a little gnawing on it between the G3 and G4 and a couple other small areas.

Once again, this is a spot that both my dad and I have been through several times, never hurts to check areas multiple times.

    anyways....here are the picts.....

Got out for a little over an hour, decided to check a few new spots, it was worth the effort getting over there through the snow.

Comes in at 61 1/4" probably would have been around a mid 130's, gonna be nice next year if he hangs around......

Just as a side note, the sheds I have been finding so far are not normal for our area, usually it is alot of the forks, 3 points, maybe a half of an eight, with a handful of 2 year olds thrown into the mix. Wondering if these sheds being found are due to deeper snow and the smaller ones are getting covered up when they fall into the light fluff (3-5" deep) on top of a ice crust?

Don't know, but sure is alot of fun finding these nicer sheds.

Got out for about and hour or so after cutting wood for about 3 hours Saturday morning.

Met my dad out in the field, he had been out wandering for a couple hours before that, we made a gameplan on where we wanted to go (he sent me off in a direction that he had already covered.....must be getting worried I was building up a lead on him ;) ) He hadn't gone more than 10 feet and he shouted out the words that you love to hear 'FOUND ONE'

It sure looks like the match to the one I found on Friday, and it wasn't more than 100 yards where I found the first half.....

Had a warm day (almost 50 degree out) snow is starting to pull back, hoping to start finding the monsters that I watched all bow season

With the snow going down, it is time to start slowing down and really keeping your eyes open.
The spike I found, I just about stepped on it before I saw it.

Found my first set of horns that dropped together, no guessing on this one.

51 degrees out today, with some rain last night, the snow is taking a major hit, boss was nice enough to let me come in an hour early, so I could boogey out an hour earlier. Thought I was gonna get a couple hours in before having to take the boy to his swimming lessons, but ended up getting about 1.5 hours in and helping load some wood...both antlers were laying on top of the snow, and the larger one had some gnaw marks on the tips of the tines, couldn't have been there long, was through that area on Saturday.....actually right down the trail it was on. Enough words, here are the pictures.

    Nice man. Nice.

I can't wait to get back out this weekend.

I may try and sneak out on some public land around here at school that I plan on hunting next fall. Maybe thursday!

    Keep it up!

No woodcutting today, so got the family fed for breakfast, kissed the wife good-bye and got out into the woods for 3 hours.

First two hours were a bit frustrating, found ALOT of people tracks where there shouldn't be any (and with the warmer weather we have been having, there were probably less than a day old :bash: )

But, it was a beautiful day out and the dog was having a good time, so I guess it wasn't a total waste.

Working my way back to the car, I decided to push some canary grass that was showing signs of the snow melting.

Found the first shed in a clear area. Snapped a few pictures, walked about 20 yards and saw another one laying at the base of a tree, quick boogied over to it. I left my ski poles jammed into the snow where I first saw the shed, about 5 feet away from the poles there was another shed :bash: :bash:

Gotta keep telling myself....WATCH YOUR FEET!!!!!!

All three had something eating at them, that is a problem where I hunt, lots of critters (now people) that you compete with to find these things....
