I've been hunting this deer I named "Shorty" now going on 3 years. I have had him within 60 yards 3 times including last year on the opener when I had him at 23. Not enough light to see my pins let alone be legal. Last year he was about the same size maybe with a little less mass but just a solid 8 point. This is why I hunt, to chase deer like this that you form such a unique bond with. There is nothing else like it on earth. Of course I'd like to be the one to tag him but he has already given me so many great hunts and experiences that I could not complain if I don't. In less than a month the chase begins again.....
Good luck! Hope to see you with your bow laid across him. I know the feeling. I have an ancient 7 point on the property that is giving me fits, but I still love chasing him.
It's only 30 acres but there are some good deer around. Pressure is fairly high in the area. It just goes to show that the neighbors don't kill them all if you let them walk. The smart deer are sneaky
