Recently my grandfather's basement flooded. He has good number of guns. Well this is the one I've always wanted. I have a few now that he has given me. I will never depart with them. Anyways, all of his rifles were in the basement so I took them home to clean them up. I took this one back to him tonight and he told me I could keep it. Unfortunately he doesn't remember where he got it because it was so long ago. The gun itself is an 1862 US Military Springfield rifle. I can't say for certain it was used in the war. I would lean to not because it's in really good shape for the age. There is something stamped in the reciever that I may do some research on. Just pretty cool.
Pretty cool. Take it to Pawn Stars in Vegas and get them to call an expert. Might answer some of your questions. Don't sell it though. :D
Haha. Nice all. Well I did some more research. Its a standard rifle. Springfield made almost 400k of them. Since it's complete and in shooting condition the price is much more, but not jaw dropping. Selling price is meaningless to me though.
