My municipalities code on bows and discharging of them
I went to my city’s website and downloaded the city’s municipal code. I was just curious more than anything what it said about bows and their use.

    Here is what it says:

9.02 POSSESSION AND USE OF FIREARMS AND OTHER DANGEROUS WEAPONS.
    (1) DEFINITIONS. For the purpose of this section, the following definitions shall apply: 9-2 City of West Bend Municipal Code 9/11/09 ORDERLY CONDUCT 9.02 (1) (a)
    (a) Facsimile Firearm. (Cr. Ord. #2104 – 3/8/93; Rep. Ord. #2175 – 10/10/94 State Statute Adopted.)
(am) Firearm. Any weapon from which a shot may be fired by the force of an explosive or propellant, including, but not limited to, air guns and BB guns.
    (b) Other Dangerous Weapon. Includes bow and arrow crossbow, sling shot, blow gun and other similar weapons.
    (c) (Repealed Ord. #2232 – 12/18/95)
    (d) (Repealed Ord. #2232 – 12/18/95)
    (e) (Repealed Ord. #2232 – 12/18/95)
    (2) (Rep. Ord. #2232 – 12/18/95)

    (3) USE OF FIREARMS. (Rep. & Recr. Ord. #2232 – 12/18/95). (a) Regulated. No person except an authorized police officer shall discharge any firearm within the City, except as provided in par. (b) below.
    (b) Exceptions.
    1. Police firing range.
    2. Uses granted under a conditional use permit pursuant to Chapter 17 of this Code.
    (4) USE OF OTHER DANGEROUS WEAPONS. (a) Regulated. No person shall shoot or discharge any other dangerous weapon anywhere in the City except as provided in par. (b) below.
    (b) Exceptions.
    1. (Am. Ord. #2527 – 6/14/04) Areas designated as shooting ranges by the Park and Recreation Commission or approved by any school authority.
    2. Uses granted under a conditional use permit pursuant to Chapter 17 of this Code.
    (5) (Cr. Ord. #2104 – 3/8/93; Rep. Ord. #2175 – 10/10/94 State Statute Adopted.)

I am sure they intend for it to be no bow of any type to be discharged in the city but then it should read……. “Includes bow and arrow, crossbow, sling shot, etc.
The comma after the word "arrow" is critical. Or am I seeing something wrong?

There is also the phrase "other similar weapons" which is, more than likely, a catch-all so that the LEW's can use their discretion. To me, that would mean that a regualr bow and arrow is still not allowed.

Includes bow and arrow crossbow, sling shot, blow gun and other similar weapons

    Screw the municipality's code. :D

Knowing the code, do you still plan on shooting?

I never did plan on shooting. Too many kids running around. I have a 17 yard (wall to wall) range set-up in my basement.

I was just curious more than anything but found it interesting the lingo they choose when they wrote the code.

Yeah, the only problem with it is I wish it was longer. I know it helps build good form shooting but you don't get better at the longer shots by shooting @ 17 yards.
