I liked the simplicity of your video. No fancy bells or whistles. Just realistic, good story telling. That's what I try and pull off in my videos. Great job and congrats on a fantastic buck! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Epic Dude! Only thing that video was missing was a heart monitor on you that whole time he was standing there. MY heart was pumping. Thats why we bow hunt and why we self film. Congrats.
Haven't posted on the site for about a year I think, but had to log in and say how much I enjoyed the video. Thanks for the post. Fall is just around the corner...
Nicely done! I can appreciate the time and effort you put into both hunting and filming your hunts. Anyone that has done it knows it isn't easy. Way to keep your cool!
I am going to preface this with the intent of my post is not to beat you up and anyone that attacks you will get beat down by my posse! I believe the shot you made was excellent as he is a dead dear and you made the recovery swiftly. No additional explanation needed on the "quartering to" shot. We all know that isn't the best shot but 10,000 guys including myself would have taken that shot at that range. However is far as shot placement goes would this have been a better shot? I only ask as I think it is a good learning experiencing for a lot of guys and gals. What are your all thoughts on this?
Just watched this video and it was awesome. I started recording last year on some does. I have debated whether or not I want to attempt it while hunting the buck im after. This has got me fired up! Like others mentioned, my heart was pounding just watching right before you shot. Also loved the bird eating footage! Got 2 questions. 1. What program did you use to make the video? 2. When did you pull back on the bow? I am guessing when he looked down then shot his head right back up, but I was just curious. Learned some key things i believe watching that video. Thanks.
Apparently Photobucket changed their image share policy while I was on my hiatus. It now costs money. I moved to Flickr. Should be fixed!
I used iMovie to edit my footage. I drew my bow when the buck dropped his head. It was an intense several minutes of me dumping adrenaline waiting for that "right moment" to make a move.
The shot you propose might work. More margin for error though. After considering the angle from the tree, an inch low and it would likely be a non lethal hit. It's hard to argue with the shot placement when you look at this picture of his heart where my broad head went through. I think we all say a flare prayer in that moment we release the arrow hoping our shot flies true and finds the mark.
That's just crazy. I don't understand how you had a heart shot at the point of impact and angle.... Must of hit something hard and took off a different direction.... Edit... Nevermind. I re-watched the vid. Shot was further forwarded then I initially thought it was. Good One!
Awesome video! Keep up the good work. I also film/hunt in Minnesota. Looks like there are a few others here as well. Nice!
Sorry Heck, but the OPs was the better choice placement from this angle- in fact perfect given the resulting heart shot. With yours, an inch R it hits heavy leg bone and maybe non-lethal but maimed. Inch L and it's probably non-lethal and breaks offside leg and maimed. Inch low and it's poss. non-lethal or hits sternum and skips off low. High is only margin of error where there's still a good chance of a quick kill.
