Thanks Ty! The truth is he probably could have needed one more year, but who in there right mind could pass a 200" buck! Haha Not me! Sent from my SM-G900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I don't think your score estimate could have been any closer! Cinderella story is all I can say. Just awesome. You should be quite proud.
Holt. Awesome to have a place in the history books. Incredible season man and I wish you many more to come.
Thanks guys! I got to watch him score him last night and took almost 3 hours. But we were doing alot of talking. Really cool to see how close I was in scoring and he showed me the proper ways to score to get the most inches out of a rack. The funny thing is he said he gets calls to measure deer and the people say they shot a 200 inch buck, and they are almost never hit that mark. Also he said out of 500 bucks he scored, this was only the 5th 200" he scored! It really put it in prospective how rare this deer is for me! Holt, I was just thinking of how much fun you must have had knowing that buck was around your area, and that there was a real chance of you killing him if you put the time in, which you did. He must have occupied a space in your head each day until you killed him. Now, you get to experience the anticipation of getting your mount back from the taxi. Can't wait to see it.
He did consume my thoughts for 2 1/2 months. It was tough to not let it get to me. Between worried about were he was and the excitement to hunt hunt him, it drained me! My health went down alot and I got sick after that. Between lack of sleep, weight loss, and I got really dehydrated, and stress. I'm finally starting to feel better, it took 2 months to get better. All this over a deer! But I wouldn't trade or do any thing different for the experience I had hunting him! Sent from my SM-G900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Haha I'm loving yours! Yeah it's probably time, I don't think the team is going to win this year! Sent from my SM-G900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I'd like to know if having bucks of this caliber is a result of anything other than the obvious, passing younger bucks. I assume most bucks just don't have the right genetics to grow big antlers? nutrition would also be a factor, right? Your opinions on deer minerals? I bet tons of people all over the country do everything right down to a T and still never have a chance at a buck like this.
He was living in a area with high buck numbers and less then normal hunting pressure. Nothing I did helped this buck, I just picked up the property this year and no history with him. I did hear a story the year before of a huge buck in the area, other then that I had no idea he was there. I found him during the summer eating in a bean field before the season started. Then planed my attack from there. Up to this year the biggest buck I had seen from the stand in 25 years of hunting was a 8 pt that went in 150" range. Also in 25 years I may have only seen 10 bucks that would go Pope and Young. So he just a Genetic Freak which I hope he spread his genes while he was alive. From the look of his body, I believe he was only a 4 1/2 year old. I was just lucky to hunt a buck like this. The farmer next door came over to help load him up, He said in the past 35 years he was there he never seen a deer like him!
