House is on a curve where the rock turns to a dirt road and goes South for over a mile. My dog and I go for his morning walk down the dirt road about 1/3 mile and back. He is always watching for deer as one side is CRP and the lower side is crop ground with a creek and tree line. See a lot of deer crossing the road morning and evening. My dog, Magnum wants to go down ever path the deer use. If he don't happen to see any deer he will stop and bark a couple times, then watch . Early morning and evening around sunrise & sunset he is in his position on his box watching for deer. When he spots them he lets us know on no uncertain terms. Lot of times he will see them before we do. If I could just figure out how to use him in a stand - - - ?

many years ago as a newly married man I trained my favorite female lab to watch my bobber while northern pike fishing , with this I could nap or harass the wife, drink a beer and listen to the radio, when the big bobber would wobble and go under she would bark and pace, it was lovely, tried my damnedest to get the wife to do the same with no success, just the LOOK

Fortunate to live in the middle of an area that has a ton of deer. Counted 17 cross the road and jump the gate the other evening. Now I need to learn where and how to get my stand up right and in the right place/direction. Last hang on was a high traffic area, stand the right direction but when I put the sticks up I didn't notice the tree at the top two sticks bowed out towards the way I would climb. Had a safety belt on so didn't notice it when I put it up but darn sure did when I tried to climb the sticks. I still screw up on little things like that.
This fall plan is to look the location for the stand over from all directions on 3 different days before I actually hang it. No more sticks either, ladders or ladder stands. Have 2 - 16' ladders and will put one stick above that. Hope to pick up another ladder stand too.

Many years ago our family (guys) would fish late at night. Hand small brass cow bells on the end of the rod, tuned with tape to change the tone. Could catch a nap and wait for a bell to ring. Your dog watching the bobber reminded me of that. Thanks.
