I bought some paracord over the weekend and can't wait to start some projects. Not sure what to make first though.

    Me too!

First you need to "corn" a venison roast. I typically use a shoulder roast. In beef, its the brisket. Basically you want something with uniform thickness (1-2" works for me).

    Here's the corning recipe:

    -1 qt water
-1/4 cup salt (I use canning salt)
-1 or 2 Venison roasts **see above**
-4 cloves of garlic, sliced thin
    -1 T pickling spices
    -2 or 3 bay leaves

Boil water. Add salt, stir to dissolve. Set aside to cool. Place venison in a large ziplock freezer bag. Pour saltwater over meat and add remaining ingredients. Seal bag, removing as much air as possible. Place bag in large bowl and refrigerate for 10-20 days. Drain & remove bay leaves. (at this point, you can also make pastrami by adding a pastrami rub & smoking the venison).

I like to slice a small chunk of meat off at this point and fry it quick in a pan so I can taste it. Depending on how salty you want your Corned Veni, you can change how you cook it.

    1- Tastes good.
Place in small pot. Fill with water to cover the roast by a 1/2". Bring to Boil, reduce heat to Med. Simmer covered until cooked thoroughly and desired tenderness is reached.

    2- Not salty enough.
Same as #1, only add salt to water when boiling.

    3- Too Salty.
Same as #1, only use larger pot and more water. This will take more of the salt out of the roast. You can also let it soak in the water for a couple hours prior to cooking.

Now, you need a good Marble Rye, sauerkraut, swiss cheese (I now prefer Havarti), and some Thousand Island dressing. Thinly slice the corned veni and build your Reuben :tu:

Is your sling basically a cobra weave with a slip knot?

Yeah. The cobra is only there to keep the single line from digging into my shoulder, and keep the tether in place.

There are little jigs you can buy or use that can make some projects easier, but you can improvise just as easy. I've used my bow press.

I like the little one that hooks on your shoulder Fitz. I bought a neck/shoulder lanyard from slider46 and love it

Paracord: The best excuse for a man to craft. Cobra weave sling I made for a buddy, I guess just have to make it longer for a range finder. Very cool project

I have been considering doing this, because I generally have many hours of free time on my hands at night while working. Seems like a cool little project to start.
