A couple months ago, we installed a storm shelter/ safe room/ gun safe in my room. The shelter is all steel, and is 4'x8'x6'. Since it's not the prettiest thing, I cased it in by building a wall around it. This allowed me to have my first ever closet, and gave me a reason to completely remodel my room. Here is the storm shelter after the final installation Wired in an electrical outlet and light inside the shelter After framing the wall around it Installed a 36" door to access the shelter Installed a 30" door for my closet Widened the entry door to my room to 36" I ripped the top 4' of drywall off and put OSB up so that I could hang my shoulder mounts anywhere Then I covered the entire wall with 3 1/2" pine panels After staining Closeup of my lantern lights Installing the floor My new bedroom set got delivered today I still have two more shoulder mounts to put up, so the walls gonna be pretty full here shortly. I'm happy I'm finally done with this project though, it's been going on since September!
Dude... I love the walls, I have a room that I've started to convert to a man cave... but that is as far as it has gone... just started...lol. I was so torn about what to do with the walls.... I like how yours turned out... very nice...
I was torn between this, or making the bottom half of the wall galvanized tin. I have seen some rooms like that and I thought they looked pretty good. I'm glad I went with the pine the full length though, and it was less work to boot.
I agree... I was thinking about doing bottom plank, top half sheet rock... but then I would have to decide on a color... then I thought about a half rock, half plank.... But that is serious work and money.... I think I'll go your route.
This route actually wasn't that expensive. I got all the panels at Menards while they were 50% off with a mail in rebate. Then I just trimmed everything out with 1x4s.
It's mainly just for storage of things I don't use that much. But that's also how I plan on getting on top of the shelter if the tv or Internet needs worked on, as the router is above the shelter through the actual door.
That turned out really well. Does your bedroom access the living room? Looking like the lattice work goes in to a table sitting area. Good idea with the osb on the wall. Beefie
Just wait another month until I have two more mounts on the wall, this years and my 2010 buck that is being remounted :D
