My first archery deer was a late season kill. It was also the only deer I ever saw fall within sight. Today, I had seconds on both accounts. I screwed up on what I thought was a buck. He caught me switching from front facing to rear facing in my climber. I decided to let out a few bleats and a grunt for the heck of it and in came this nice big doe and her two predecessors. A 20 yard shot and a 20 yard stumble, and it was all over. First time ever I have filled all three of my doe tags. Never to fear, I still have a buck tag to put in that soup in a week if I don't get to drop the string on one before then. The late season is special for me. Last year, we got my father in law a bow and he was hooked. Due to our professions, we both have the week after Christmas off. Last year(and this year so far) we hunted nearly every day that week, morning and night. We made a vow to make it a yearly event. I have had more fun in the last week than I have during the entire early season. He missed a doe tonight and I had the coyotes get on a doe that I shot on Tuesday, other than that we've just been checking traps and enjoying some wonderful late season weather. Got another day tomorrow to try and get him his first kill.
Awesome, bud! Glad you redeemed yourself. Who cares if you don't have buck down, yet. You've had a great season. The weather was awesome today, wasn't it?
Our season goes till the 15th. I have until the 8th, then I have to leave for a cross county trip to Denver. I'll get 4500 miles in 3 weeks in January. It sucks. He'll hunt most nights until the closer.
Matt, it was thoroughly wonderful today, if my wife had not been away and I didn't have to go relieve my grandmother in law of 18 month old sitting duties, I might have sat all day. We saw 3 more does at 10, they passed out of range of my father in law, I thought we were gonna have a double.
