I have been looking forward to my Iowa hunt since my last one 2 years ago. This year Matt joined our group. We saw a GIANT riding around Friday. On the opening day of the second shotgun season I saw a huge typical out of range. I passed a 145" 3 1/2 year old ten on Sunday since they do not want young deer shot. Monday started off slow but then the flood gates opened and I saw a pile of deer including quite a few nice ones. The BIG typical from the first night was in the CRP and I watched him for an hour. He got behind a tree and I lost sight of him. With only 10 minutes of legal shooting left I saw a big buck come from behind the tree and start coming right at me. I looked through my binos once thought it was him I got my slug gun ready. He crossed behind the tree again and I shot him as soon as he was in a clearing. He went right down and I started to shake and really thought I just shot the big one that I was watching. When I got down and to the buck I was thinking WTF just happened. Still a great buck and happy to put my tag on him. He is a main frame 10 point with split brows and a couple kickers, he scores 157". Matt is in that box tonight so I hope he shoots him tonight.
Where's the pics? Unfortunate you shot a different buck than you were thinking you shot but sounds like it all turned out ok. Looking forward to the pics!
Ya that's a heck of a buck! Probably one of the best hunting mistakes I've seen, if you wanna call it that! Well done!
Congrats Tom on a beautiful buck! I love the unique cape on that deer. I would call that a pretty darn good consolation prize. You guys stop by if you get a chance.
Great deer! And congrats again! Hope Matt gets the other big boy, that would make for a awesome trip! Sent from my SM-G900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
