I will forever love whitetail deer and eastern turkey hunting, and nothing will be able to top them as #1 and #2 on my list. But i will say that they were not the first animal i pursued in my lifetime. It all started when i was about 10 years old, i had always watched my dad leave in the early morning to go deer hunting and in the summer evenings to go "woodchuck" hunting. One day i finally talked him into letting me take the old single shot .22 out hunting "on my own". He was going to be by the lake cutting wood, and he told me not to go far.

So there i was, walking through a bean field without a clue in the world where to find a pig, when i notice the beans to my left moving. I run over and low and behold, a woodchuck is looking at me from 3 yards away. I promptly ended his days Wyatt Earp style and from that moment on, i was a hunter!

Ive killed many pigs since then, but that one will always be my favorite (and easiest)

Pretty cool, I wish we could hunt ground hogs here in Wisconsin, they are protected except on private land doing damage!

I have killed my fair share of them, they are a blast to shoot, but for us it is all about pest control. These things are a huge problem on my friends family farm, the holes can really do a number on the tractors. Since last summer, there have been more than 105 groundhogs shot on that 160 acre farm alone!

Doesn't matter what you are hunting as long as your hunting.

Cool story and good stuff Caleb!! I hate them damn things, they can do some damage In a hurry with their digging. None will get by with It at my place If they show up, target practice!! :) Them damn things can be mean though. I remember getting chased around by them a few different times.

Yep, I love to shoot them too, other than whitetails and turkeys, woodchucks are one of my favorites to hunt. My dad used to pay me $5 per hog to get them out of the pastures when I was a little kid. I still love hunting them to this day.

I've got a pretty sweet varmint/predator specific AR for hunting now, it's ton's of fun to laser them at ridiculous distances and let them have it from hundreds of yards away. Just yesterday I actually scored on a 30mm 4.5-14x40 Leupold VXIII to put on top of it, those little bastards are really in trouble now.

Last summer I killed 10+ out of the mowed area you can see way off in the distance in this pic. That's one of my clover plots at camp.

That looks like a nice rig Matt... my groundhog gun is simply my deer rifle. When I'm out at my buddies family farm we all use his cousins rifle. It is a Remington 700 .308 which has been pretty much turned into a sniper rifle. Custom stock designed by an ex-sniper for the millitary, bull barrel, tripod, and his scope is sweet. He actually had placed an order for a Leupold and after waiting several weeks without it coming in, he contacted the company he purchased it from and they appologized as they were no longer carrying Leupolds... they told him that they would upgrade him to a comprabale scope... they ended up sending him a top of the line Zeiss scope!

have to ask, what do you use them for after harvest? i see them all over and can hunt them 365 days a year and good target/filming practice. plus im missing deer season this year so "summer chool" woodchucks and jan-mrch coyote and may turkey hunting season will NEVER END FOR ME HAHAH

Used to have a ton of them around here when I was a kid too. I had a blast shooting them with CCI Stingers. Then the coyotes moved in and not many hogs left around here. About the only place they can live anymore is around old barns and under out buildings close to people.

Nice whistle pigs. We used to pop them with the .22 when we were little. Good times and fun shooting.
