It used to be much more of an issue than it is now. They have addressed it but it does still happen from time to time, especially if the edge of the limbs hits something.

I had it happen to one of the first XT2000 limbs that came out (several bows ago) I had no issue clipping it off and sanding the edge and i would have to show you where I did it for you to see it. My brother in law is still shooting that bow. Probably 13 years ago when I clipped it.

Thanks for that info. Again wasn't bashing just curious. Glad they've been working on a solution.

I know you weren't but this is kind of a misunderstood issue. Hoyt left the edges exposed for years because to be honest, it looks cool to be able to see the laminated layers. See pic in this thread of the delaminated limb. (Very uncommon for hoyt to have that issue) you can see the layers.

Compare that to the newer bows and you can see the limbs are camo dipped and that provides a layer of protection so it doesn't happen like it used to but with an impact, can still happen.

Even with that minor issue, they still have some of if not the lowest limb failures on the market .

Good to know! It makes sense that if the layers were showing this could be an issue. Does hoyt warranty limbs if I were to buy a used hoyt and this happened?

Technically no, BUT, I have not seen them turn down a shop that asked for a set of limbs on warranty due to a second owner situation. It Is my understanding they leave that up to the dealers.

Sounds like good customer service. That would be my biggest concern.

This exactly. My carbon element is the 2012 model, and when I had the side of a limb splintered hoyt still had the limbs that showed the laminate layers on the sides, the limbs I received from hoyt on warranty were the newer model ('13 G3) with the whole limb dipped in camo, which acted like a nice protecting coat for the entire limb not just to top and bottom. And I've had no problems at all with the new limbs, got em on my bow since the spring, they look like new, for sure an improvement on the limbs.

My alpha max's limbs never had anything happen to them, that thing was a tank it went on some tough hunts in horrible weather conditions with me, the riser was all scratched up and half the camo was worn off it looked like I had used the bow for 10+ years but shot perfect and was a great bow til I sold it.
