It started out to be a great day. I had gotten into bed early the night before and set the clock for 5:20 am. I woke, brushed my teeth and headed for the door, grabbed some chow for the road. I am new to bow hunting, my first year, and I am ate up with it. I cant beleive I will be 39 years old in a few days and I have never tried bow hunting before, it is great. I get to my friends house (he owns a lot of land and has been hunting for 40 or so years) and headed for my stand. The stand is actually my friends, as he has a ton of them strategically placed everywhere. The only three that hunt his land are him, me and his son. I decide to walk in and not drive the mule. It is still dark which is what I was hoping for. I get there and get in my stand rather quickly and get set up, I am ready at 6:51, still no light. This particular stand was put up by my friends son and it sits along a creek bed in a bottom. He killed a nice 8 pointer there about 2 weeks ago. I hunted the stand a week or so ago after his kill and saw a doe and a small buck, no shot. As the sun comes up it begins to rain and continues to do so the whole day. I stayed until 11:30 am and decided to call it quits. I had Halloween duties for my daughter to get to and I hadnt seen anything all day. As I was leaving the area, I got to the power lines. which is 75 yds from my stand and up jumps a nice buck. CRAP!!!! He was laying in the tall weeds and grass, and of course he ran towards the stand, nothing I can do but watch this gorgeous buck run away. He was at least a 10 pointer and looked to be real thick. After I had stood there for a while with my mouth open I began to walk again. 50 yds into my walk the same thing happens, but it is a doe. Anyway, at least I was hunting. My day will come. Just wanted to share. Thanks for reading.
