I have been hunting for 22 years now, have had the opportunity to harvest some great bucks with a bow and a boone and crockett bear with bow also. Tonight I ended the chapter on a legend. Her name is double throat patch, this doe has been wrecking my hunts since 2007. She was smart and no matter where I sat she always found a way to mess with me. I figure her to be around 8 years old as she had twin fawns with her the first time i remember seeing her in 07. Tonight she nearly pulled the ole get away card on me again. She showed up in the plot at around 90 yards, working her way towards me. she gets to down wind at about 45 yards and is only a few steps from giving me a clear shot, when suddenly she realizes "he is out here some where" she immediately began looking for me, she turned and headed into a little grass spot and was suddenly just gone. I was spent the next 25 minutes trying to figure out where she went. next thing i know I look out the window of the blind (I was hunting in the rifle stand with my daughter with me) and she is like 5 feet from the blind looking right into the window. I quickly got my duaghter to where she could see, DTP began to walk away quickly, she knew something wasn't right, i drew, she stopped at the noise and at 15 yards I let her have it! she only went about 50 yards and was down. A legend, a deer I missed with a rifle three years ago, my brother in law missed with a bow four years ago, a doe that has ruined dozens of hunts over the last six years is finally done! I am stoked! I skinned her whole, and plan to have her entire cape tanned and her hide will hang in my office from the nose with the patch out! here is a picture, I am excited and yet sad knowing she isn't gonna be around any more! Congrats man. Those old does can definitely be tough on a hunter. Sounds like you have plenty of history and a great story.
Sure it made it a little bittersweet as well, on the plus side you got to share it with your daughter which probably made it even more special.

For sure, she got off the bus and I asked her if she wanted to go hunting with me, the first thing out of her mouth was "maybe we will get ole double throat patch" lol and as it turned out we sure did.

So cool and a beautiful doe she was. I have 3 DTP bucks mounted, and another on the way. I always thought about getting a doe mounted, she would be the one for me.
    Congrats!

Cool, good job! I wouldn't feel too bad, at her age she wasn't going to be around much longer anyway and what a cool story and hide to have.

Congrats man!...Nice to be rid of a nemesis. I got one that's been doing the same to me, and of course I missed her late last year on the one chance she gave me.

Well done sir! I too have a big old doe that has ruined many a hunt for me. I could've shot her twice last fall however I passed the first time b/c I had a good buck close by and passed a 2nd time because I was out of camera light and she was on high alert. This fall I hope she isn't so lucky.
