Went out to the blind at 515 on saturday morning and got set up for my girlfriends first turkey hunt. We hadn't done much for scouting since the land we hunt on is 2 hours away from where we live but we had a general idea to where the birds were. The weather here in our area of Wisconsin has been terrible for the first season of turkey hunting. We were only sitting in the blind about 15 mins before we had to turkeys gobbling up in the roost. I did a few calls early and they kept gobbling for about 45 mins. Then they went completely quite I had thought that they had flew down and went in a different direction. I called twice with no response, after about 15 mins of not hearing any turkeys we heard what sounded like an animal taking a step. I looked out the blind in the opposite direction that we heard the gobbling earlier and there was a jake stepping out onto the field about 30 yards away. He came charging in and didnt give us much time to prepare, you may also hear me say in the video after she shot it asking if it had a beard. I dont know what made me ask that but it all happened so quick I guess I wanted to make sure that what I saw was real. Take a look at the video, Hope you enjoy!! She had a blast hunting and I am so glad I got to share that expieriance with her. My turn next weekend.
Nice job. I'm hoping to call in a bird for my gf this year. Won't be her first but be her first with me. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
She is a pretty good shot. I watched her kill her first duck screaming by the duck blind last fall. Thanks everyone I am glad you liked it. We are still learning film techniques and I now know that I should not film through the screen on the blind. Unless I can figure a focus thing on my camera which I have to experiment with.
Congrats to her on a great shot and great bird! I was going to say the same thing about the footage. Looked like you have it set to auto focus and the camera picked up the netting as the main focal point. Need to figure out how to switch to manual so you can change the focus to be the decoy and doign that it might completely eliminate the netting all together. Great job looking forward to seeing more videos!
Thanks for the advice I will look for how to turn off auto focus on my camera and test it through the window screen. I really dont need the netting in HD I was kinda upset when looking at the footage to see what it looked like because the way the feathers were across the snow would have been awesome to have a better look at that during the shot. Would have made a nice slow mo. Not too often there is that much snow on the ground when turkey hunting. Hopefully I get my bird on film with my bow this weekend. I am debating weather or not to have the screens on the blind up or down.
