Is there any way to avoid or decrease the stiffening of the fluid heads when those late season temps roll in. I have trouble when the temps get below 35-45 ish. Its a Manfrotto 700RC2. As soon as I bring it back in the house it warms up and functions fine.
Interesting. I was actually worried about this with my MVH502AH head, but didn't have any issues. Even in temps below 0*. It got more stiff, but still functioned well. Not sure what all the differences are between the two models?
The MVH502AH looks a lot more high tech then mine but I'm sure the mechanics are the same. As the temps get colder in doesn't seem to get worse. At a certain temp it get slow and stiff so I just open the adjustments a little more and I'm more patient with my movements. It's got the job done when we where wolf hunting in Northern MN and on all the coyote hunts I've taken it on when the temps were well below zero.
Mine likes to almost lock up. Once I apply enough pressure it frees and is fine but drives me insane.
If I'm not mistaken, the 700RC2 is a "Semi" fluid head where as Fitz's 500 is a full fluid head. Might be worth the price difference. I've been doing a lot of reading on the subject and I'm probably going to lean towards the 500 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
