Very nice property and like many, the barn is one of my favorite things about it. Well done Matt and I wish you a lifetime of memories there.
Thanks a lot guys! Honestly, we were set on getting land and building, but it just didn't play out. This place was actually something I wasn't overly excited about originally (I know, I know), but I've really come to realize how lucky I am to have such a place. Haven't had much time to get on here, so I'll pull a "Rob," Buck Magnet: Thanks, bud. I'm already planning the different layouts I can have for 3D:d Not sure about hosting a GTG, but any of you are welcome anytime! 120Woodman Thanks, and we will be sure to do so. We spend most of our time on the deck. buttonbuckmaster Thanks, bud. Dan Thanks! Buckeye Thanks, Scott. If you're up this way ever, I'll give ya a tour. Iowa Veteran Lol, my parents keep reminding me what their first place looked like, and how fortunate we are. I'll admit, there were times I was unhappy when contemplating purchasing this place, but I really need to remind myself of what I really have. rickmur Thanks, I hope so:d Ben/PA Ben, you were the first and only (so far) BH.com member to see the place:d As for the stand, I'm seriously contemplating it. This afternoon we had our first good doe come out of the hollow into the neighbors yard GABowhunter Thanks, bud! SchultzyThanks schultz! Siman08/OH Thanks Siman. It doesn't hurt that I took the pictures at the magic hour in the evening. We had to do a lot of yard clean up/tree pruning from what it originally looked like. Buckmaster Thank, Aaron. We really did, but honestly we timed everything JUST right. The market was at it's lowest point, the interest rate was perfect, and with a little bit of luck, we pulled it off. Josh/OHThanks, Josh. Lol, actually my future brother in law wants to live there, but there won't be much room once I fill it with tools, mowers, quads, and maybe even my own archery "shop." jmbuckhunterThanks. I use the term "Starter" loosely, although technically it IS. We eventually want to find a good chunk of land to build on, but this will definitely "do" for now:d racewayking Thanks! We'll need all the luck we can get in this crazy world. Jim_IV Thanks, Jim! isaiah Thanks, and isn't that the truth (at least the barn is my dream come true, lol). Greg / MOGreg, thanks for the kind words. About the mowing, that's basically it, lol. It takes about two days of 2-2.5hr stints to finish most of it (including trimming). I have a small 12.5HP cub cadet with a 36" cut. Hardly enough for this yard. With the fast spring growth, I feel like all I do is mow! I will most likely get a zero turn next year. Rick JamesThanks, Matt. Although this is kind of "country," we do have neighbors. It's really about AS non-rural as I was willing to go. I do have about 40-50 acres of undeveloped land bordering the back edge, though. I'll have to have you down here sometime to check it out. Rob / PA Thanks, Rob. My hopes were to find land and build a log home after seeing yours, but it wasn't in the cards for now, but this place will certainly fill the void for now. ryboRyan, thanks buddy. Lol, as for the GTG, once my fiance is satisfied with the exterior work and I get some free time! Actually, I may organize a little something next year. The yard would be a fun place to shoot.
Now that's the way to thank people. Well done, I've seen that before. :d Matt, seriously, that's a great place. My first place I absolutely loved. It was everything I needed and wanted except that I yearned for a log home. It was however a perfect starter place and I put my sweat equity into it. You can do the same, you have so much time. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and I look forward to seeing it when your ready. I'll ride the scoot up and we can both share our new purchases.
That deck is AWESOME! The more I look at the pics the more I like it. Are you going to seal that wall where you dug everything out? Looks like you'll be okay but $20 for the sealer might be cheap insurance. Either way, good job.
Thanks. That's almost exactly as I would describe it (diamond in the slight rough:d ). zimmer/wiThanks, bud. It's a great feeling to be a homeowner. A lot more responsibility, but well worth it. Rob Thanks, I'm putting in a lot of sweat equity already, and it's rewarding. Give me a call sometime, and head on up. I'll show you around. Dubbya Thanks. The deck is very nice, but there is some work needed (I'm probably going to take the deck board off next summer, surface plane them, then restain). It's VERY solid, it's just some weathering issues I need to address. As for the wall, yep, I'm planning to seal it before the sheeting/fill goes in. I'll take any extra little barrier I can get against moisture.
Outstanding!!! Your parents should be proud that they instilled a great value inside of you. Nothing like good old fashion hard work and sweat equity, you will be rewarded in the upcoming decades for your hard work!!! I'm happy for you and your wife - best of luck young man!
Thanks for the kind words. The work is hard, but very rewarding, and well worth it. Steve, thanks bud. You will have to come up sometime. Ben knows his way here:d
Very, very nice!! You should be very proud. Heck, I'm on my 4th house and it's not nearly as spiffy as yours. This is where I started in my home owning experience. Seriously. (somebody had stolen the siding off if it.) You are waaaay ahead already. Congrats!!
Looks awesome Matt... Just remember a house is a constant work in progress that you'll never have "just" the way you want it...:d
Thanks Christine. I definitely feel fortunate. Pat, I'm slowly coming around to the realization that I simply cannot get EVERYTHING done at once:d
Nice place Matt. We've been in our house for almost a year now. I know the feeling about "never-ending work." At least the yard work slows down during hunting season. :D
