Well today was fun in any sense of the word. I decided to take advantage of this major coldfront we had this weekend and hit the stand in search of a doe. On this past Tuesdays season opener, I let an arrow fly at a doe only for my broadhead to hit bone and deflect off her body. Needless to say it made her jump but she was fine but my broadhead broke on impact. (Shooting NAP Spitfire's) I saw tons of deer this week to include on shooter buck that never came in range, as for this morning the woods were dead quiet and I didn't think I was going to see another deer at all. at around 815 when I was playing around on my phone I glanced up and noticed a good doe in my shooting lane! I panicked a bit as she was quickly making her way out of my lane. luckily she hit the white oak on her way out and stopped in the dead open and allowed me a quartering away shot at 25 yards. Now, my shot was NOT great. I hit way back and penetrated the paunch. Luckily for me the arrow caught one lung and sliced her heart. the hole was immediately plugged by her intestines as she ran. I quickly lost site of her. After some time I got down checked for blood and couldn't find any trace I had even shot a deer. after a few phone calls and some breakfast I grabbed some buddies and reenacted where she was shot and what direction she ran off. before you know I was on blood and found my arrow and there she was not 50 yards from that spot. It feels good to be on the board this year this early. now I can concentrate my efforts on a big buck! I went and attached the broken broadhead picture
Congrats!!! What was the shot angle and circumstances around the first deer? When you said the BH broke on impact do you mean on the deer itself or the ground after it deflected? I only ask because I was thinkning about switching to the spitfires this year. Thanks!
Straight shot, quartering to me. Arrow ended up hitting shoulder blade and just stopped dead on impact, it broke when it hit the deer no doubt.
Congrats on the deer. But a quartering away shot is not a good one to take! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
