Well got my mount back today. This is my first mount. My dad has had some shoulder mounts but never a Euro. I didn't know if I would like it not but I think I like it a lot. With the skull being bleached it really makes all the little bumps and nooks and curves in the rack really pop out. I didn't score it before I sent it off but curiosity got the best of me when I got home and Total Gross came out at 127 7/8 which is about 12 more than I figured. Either way I'm super psyched and really proud. This was really the deer that was at the top of the list at the beginning of the season and now I've got his meat in the freezer and the rack on the wall. Pretty cool considering the last picture I got of him was in August with him still in full velvet. This is the deer my dad got with the rifle last week. We got the first pics of this deer on Dec. 1 right at dark. My dad shot him just after 5pm on the 7th. Pictures do not do this deer any justice. In the 40 yrs my dad has been hunting this is by far his biggest buck. As is this deer scored 152. If he hadn't busted off his brow tine and part of his G4 he probably would have been well into the 160s. He had been in some battles had a lot of scars. Just an awesome deer.
euro mount looks awesome! love that contrast of the white skull and dark horns. congrats on a nice kill! did your taxidermist make the wooden plaque its mounted to, or was that something you purchased seperately and mounted the euro to yourself?
Thanks! He made the plaque and mounted everything up for me. Did it for cheap too. $40 for the mount then $20 for the plaque. He will make pretty much make whatever plaque you want. I found this design online and sent him the picture and he just copied it. He said he had been showing his customers and they all really like it. Most of the people/places I called started at $80-$100 then another $40-$60 for the plaque. Called one that was $200 for the mount and they won't make plaques and referred me somewhere. He seems like a stand up guy, kept me updated on the process and got to it quick. Actually he had it done last weekend I just couldn't make it there. If anyone is in the Manhattan, KS area that would like a Euro mount PM me and I'll get you his information.
Great looking mounts and congrats to your dad on another great buck! I love european mounts because they are easy to put up and they do not take up much space. If you ask me they look pretty dang cool up on the wall. Great choice on a mount for you buck.
