Finally my dad sent me some pictures of his bear he shot this year In September bear hunting with his longbow that he made 15+ years ago. I had to scan the picture's so there not as nice looking as they should be. He shot the bear only a few days after I had left so I wasn't able to get In on all the high fiving and stuff. The bear dressed out at 240lbs. He's got a nice head on him and should have no problem making P&Y. I'm thinking he'll go right at 19" or a tad smaller. 18" Is the minimum for P&Y. The bear was at 10 yards when he zipped him from his tree stand. He then ran about 175 yards and there he layed. He caught one lung and the heart. I'm really surprised the bear went as far as It did. He got a complete pass through using XX75 1916 Aluminum arrows tipped with 130 grain Magnus II vented 2 blade's. He's pulling right around 57lbs I believe.

Edit: (7-21-09) Tonight my brother and I met up with the guy that always scores any animals that we get In our family that could be potential P&Y animals. He's a great long time friend of the family and official P&Y scorer. Finally I was able to get the bear skull from my dad and get It good and cleaned up to see If he made It In the books. Well he did, just barely!! The skull scored out at 18 Inches right on, the minimum for P&Y Is 18 Inches. My dad has 7 P&Y animals- (1 Canada Moose, 3 Whitetails, 1 Coues Deer, 2 Mn bear) 4 of those 7 have just barely squeaked In so he gets the nickname "squeaky" from us and all his hunting buddies. So far since 2000 our small little group of 7 bow hunters have taken 5 P&Y bear In 9 years on public land that Is loaded full of bear hunters In northern Mn. We work our tails off for these bear, It's by far the hardest hunting (work wise) that I've ever done. A while back a few guys were asking what my dads skull ended up scoring so I thought I'd share It with everyone.

Well Bols, you were the 1st to hear about. Remember the PM that night?? That was tough on me not being there that night as I'm sure you could tell!! As for the tractor, he's got a 7' mower deck under that thing. He's got small little roads going through his woods up there so that works pretty good keeping his roads mowed down.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I'll relay the message to the old man!:tu:

    that is nice schultzy!
gotta love the big woods of northern MN!

I shot a bear many moons ago. brought it in to get the hide made into a rug.
gave him a deposit. seen him 8 years later and asked him if it was done yet.
well as it turned out, I knew he had a house fire and all was destroyed.
the son of a gun up a died on us last summer..wierd story him and his pa both got sick and both died within a day of each other...I'm pretty sure I wont be getting my rug.

is your pop gonna have a mount?

I understand you completely on waiting to get your rug back. I waited 8 years to get my biggest bear back, At least I got mine back though I guess. Sorry for your luck. Dad told me money Is too tight so he's just going to clean the skull up and have that In the house. Dad said he's giving his bear to a guy he knows who's going to make a full mount out of It and put In his new taxidermy shop.
