Well, I finally harvested my biggest buck and I couldn't be any happier. Quick story goes like this: Haven't seen a thing all late afternoon yesterday. With only about a half hour left of shooting light, a young spike walks directly behind me 15 yards. No clue I was there. As I was feeling sorry for myself yet again, something tells me to try the grunt tube. Buck grunt nothing, change the tone to Doe grunt and this nice 8 point walks into my lane at 20 yards. Chip shot right! Well its different when a live animal is in front of us as we all know, I fire my arrow broadside shot at 20 yards, hit him low and back and he slowly walks off after stopping behind a tree nearly 40 yards away. Praying he would tip over(not my luck boys and girls) he walks off into the darkness. Hour after shot I climd down, find my arrow, nice blood trail, but on great advice from a great friend, he tells me to back out. So, my wife actually comes with me to track him and wouldn't you know, he wasn't a total of 80 yards from where I shot him!! Very proud and happy! He's going on my wall.
Thats a great buck grommel! Congrats for sure! I keep hearing stories of good bucks being taken from long island, i may have to head south and hunt there! Local public lands are killing me lately! Lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Nice buck! Good job on backing out like you did. I've waited over night with a shot to the center of the body like that. Makes recovery so much easier.
