Is my mom. I'm sitting in a hotel outside the hospital right now writing this. My mom went in for open heart surgery on Wednesday to replace her Aortic valve. After going in, the surgeon discovered that another valve, the Mitral, also needed replaced. Six grueling hours later, she came out of the surgery fine and is now in recovery. She's still on the ventilator, but making progress as they expected. Hopefully, within the next day or two, they'll get that thing out of her, bring her back to life and we can start the road to recovery. This season was really put in to perspective for me. Outside of my dad, who we lost four years ago, my mom is my biggest supporter of this hunting craziness of mine. I lost time in the woods this season because of my moms' ailing heart, but I wouldn't trade any of it for my mom. This whole experience really made me realize what is most important in life and it certainly is not hunting. I tell all of you, family should always take precedence over hitting the woods. Trust me, there will always be another season, another day in the tree, another big buck, etc. You only get one set of parents, one brother or sister, or any other family member. Make it count when they need it most. God bless.
Great post MM, spot on. Keeping your mom in prayers for a speedy recovery. Good luck the rest of the season bud! Mike
Great post x2! My mom turns 77 tomorrow. She's off traveling half-way around the world as she normally is this time of year and I am extremely grateful that she's healthy enough to be doing so. I'm praying for your mom's fast recovery and for you to have many more happy years together!
As my parents head down that inevitable road, I realize more and more how special they are. My dad helped me recover my first 2010 buck last night, and my oldest boy was with us. I explained to him how he would remember this night the rest of his life, hopefully... and started telling him about an experience with my dad that I remembered from about his age... Halfway through the story, he asked "Dad, are you crying?" I was.
I'd expect your mom is already extubated and up walking around. I hope she's back to normal in no time.
Hope your mom is on the mend. Thanks for posting, I know it made me stop and think about whats important.
thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, and I hope your mom has a great recovery, great post!
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We really appreciate it. Mom is doing great. They have her out of bed and walking the hallways. Dr's are really happy with her progress so far. Looks like we might have to spend turkey day in the hospital, but it doesn't matter to me. We'll make do. We have a healthy recovering mom to be thankful for. Take care everyone. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.
God bless you and you Mom. Best wishes to you and your family this holiday season. Hope everything continues to work out for the best for your family.
You have the right perspective on everything and I wish your mom a speedy recovery. This is the main reason I still gun hunt, the group includes my dad, my sister, a couple uncles, a couple aunts and som ecousins. Combining hunting and family is as good as it gets.
