This story starts several months ago when my best friend of 23 yearsl, Matt, told me he was going to his camp for the first day of rifle season and hunting the Alleghney Natl. forest. I thought he was crazy as his family farm here in Indiana County has more bucks and I thought it had much bigger bucks.

Matt spent alot of time looking over maps and finally picked a spot that was so far from any road that he knew nobody else would be in the area. He went in last week and put a stand up.

He was in stand this morning by 6:15 a.m. and sat till 3:05 p.m. when he was eatting a sandwhich and drinking some hot chocolate when he looked down and this buck was standing 20 yards from his. He was unprepared but was able to put his thermos and sandwhich in his backpack, bend down and grab his rifle off the hook, aim, and fire a shot with the buck watching him.

He sent me a text this afternoon saying that he shot a 150" 8 point and I called him a liar. I asked for proof and waited for pics.... 40 minutes go by and he has confirmed my thoughts that he was just yankin my chain when my phone beeps and there is a picture message.... here is what I saw.

24" outside spread, 21" inside spread, 30" main beams, 11" and 10" G-2's, and 6" bases..... what a giant.... especially because this buck has never saw an ag. field in its life. It was a big woods deer that lived in the north central mts. of PA..... he is bringing it to my house tomorrow morning so we can score it, get pics, and take it to the taxidermist.

I couldn't be more happy or proud of my buddy, this is by far his biggest buck to date, his previous biggest was a 122" 10 pt.

Anybody care to guess a gross and net score for this brute?

I'll be sure to give him your congratulations... I can't wait to see this buck in person. He had a frustrating archery season and got close to a high 130"s 9 pt....I don't think that buck is gonna haunt him anymore haha!

BM....please don't take this as a negative. Take it as a huge positive.

But (easy.....lol), if that deer didn't have the broken off G4, he'd be the coolest deer I've maybe ever laid eyes on. I think big 8's are awesome. And, he's the gold standard.

    Congrats to your friend.

Jeff, that actually isn't a broken G4, that's just a rubbed up "knob" on the main beam. Matt said it looks like there is a golfball inside his main beam in that spot as the beam has a dip there as well....not sure if he may have hit his rack off something while in velvet. I love big 8's as well and they dont get much bigger than this one haha

It takes a lot of bone for an 8 to make 150", but I don't think this one will have a problem doing it at all. That is a giant of an 8pt.
