I'm leaving at dark-thirty tomorrow morning for a 3 day hunt at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. I am one of 75 guys drawn to hunt the open 6000 acres of the refuge this weekend. The Texas state record non-typical archery buck came off this property a few years ago. I can hang my stand, ( A Muddy I bought just for this trip), tomorrow between 8:30 and 2:00. The the hunt lasts from saturday morning to monday evening. I have scouted up there a few times after making the 2 hour drive from home. I have a pretty promising area and tree picked out. I'm planning to hunt an edge between cedars and oaks. The cedars have some large rubs, bigger than any I've ever seen before. The oaks are dropping acorns heavily and I have seen does in the oaks on two scouting trips. The rub line works its way from the cedars to the oak flat. I feel good about this. I firmly believe this could be my best chance ever to kill a BIG buck. I'll keep y'all posted.
Good luck, Greg! I had a similar opportunity last weekend. 2.5 days on the best land I ever hunted. Didn't kill anything, but it was a memorable weekend. Hope you knock down a good one.
Good luck Greg! Looking forward to hearing the report, my father-in-law got drawn for the 3rd weekend this month. I've GOT to put in for next year
I jumped 4 deer on my way in. Had a buck eating acorns where I wanted to hang my stand. I watched until he left got in Hung my stand and got out. I hope be comes back tomorrow.
