I just recently began to incorporate 100yard shooting into my practice sessions. At first, only about 2/3rds of my arrows would even hit my block target, with little consistency. I also just recently switched to a back tension release(pull through); Stan Shootoff. So, I'm adapting to that, as well. Even in it's infancy, 100yard shooting has already increased my confidence at close range shoot of 60yards and in. I can't even shoot groups at 60 anymore because it keep messing up arrows !! Anyway, I decided do a little shooting session with my brother before he had to leave. I went right to 100yards. My first group was a touch to the left, but, was still a good group(for me); I was happy with it, very. I adjusted my anchor, then shot the next group, which had me floored. My brother said that he probably wouldn't believe that I shot this group at 100yards if he wasn't standing right there. I'm still kind of shocked that I shot this group. As I shoot more consistently, and, adjust to this release, I can only imagine them getting even better !! I dont have a pin for anything past 60yards. When I shoot 80yards, I use a part of my sight for "aiming", but, with 100yards, I had to devise a method of aiming, which, apparently, is working !! Here they are...Enjoy. Edit: I just added an additional photo of another 100yard group that I just shot. I guess when you're on, you're on and when you've got it, you've got it !!
Thanks bro !!! I know a lot of guys on here shoot outdoor target archery, and, are rather experienced at shooting 80yards, in competition, and practice out to 100yards, on the norm, but, this is an outstanding grouping for me, at that range. Not to mention, I did all of this shooting, cold. I shot only these 3 groups, today. I'm so freakin' happy with myself, right now. Haha..
great shooting I only wish i could hold group like that at 100 That looks like my group at 60 lol Beast!
ive shot that far and cant hit the broad side of a barn!! Ima stick with 40yds lol =] Leave the 100yds to the pros (droptine)
Solid anchor ! My pins are rarely "steady" when I shoot. They dont have to be. When I shoot X's, my pin could be, to me, a few inches away from the X, but, there's something about using a backtension shooting method and release, that puts the arrow where you're looking. Its crazy. Trust your float. Oh, I'm no expert...Just extremely good with my bow. Just goes to show you that with modest tuning and consistent shooting, accuracy is not that far away. I remember when I thought 30yards was far, haha. This is some pretty amazing shooting, that I've displayed here. I know my groups will get tighter, as I shoot at 100yards, more..But, I'm still VERY proud of this shooting. Even if I could hold my current 80yard grouping at 100, I would be happy with that.
Man.....I guess hukd on fonix didmt werk four my. And, when you can do that at 100yards, you can make fun of my spelling...Until such time as this.... Haha, just kidding bro.
Do it. As long as you can do it safely. It's so much fun, and, you'll become so much more comfortable and confident at lesser distances, almost instantly; it's pretty wild. Just start modestly. Dont expect too much. I really just did it sounded fun, but, when I learned that there were other people shooting 100yards with some skill, I had to do it, too, and better; that's just how I am.(doubtful that I'm 'better', yet, but, I'll get there ) Just use some older arrows or arrows you're not partial too, at first. You'll learn things, too. I tend to cant my bow to the left. I've been working on it, but, I still resort back to a cant, no and again. At 60yards, it shows an effect, but, I can live with it. At 80 and 00 yards, the effects of the cant really show their ugly head. Have fun.
Goood shooting! What arrows, fletches and points are you using ? The fletches look biggish. Do you have trouble if the wind blows because you should get lots of drift. Chris
To make your accuracy repeatable time and time again you need several items. You'll need a quality sight bracket like Axcel or Toxonics, a 0.019 scope housing that accepts lens kits and a peep clarifyer kit all calibrated to a laser.
very nice shooting. Last year I switched to shooting 60 yards for most of my pratice sessions and just shooting closer to check sight pins. It truely helps work on your form because 20 yards will hide lots of minor mistakes. keep the good shooting up!!
