Hi everyone. Last year I was 13 and went out bow hunting and if was the first deer i saw with a bow in my hand. It was a little doe. I was in a ground blind i received that same week and i never shot out of it. I pulled back on the doe at 22 yards and I shot. I hit it, but only got 1 inch or so of penetration with the arrow. We looked for hours but never found it. Then this year I had a small 8 pointer at 23 yards when I was in my stand. I didn't even have my release on it was Halloween night and I put my release on quick and pulled back and my release got hit by my clothes and I shot right below this deer and if ran off to 30 yards. I tried to shoot again but when I pulled back it ran off. Will my luck ever change!!!!!
Yes it will young man. Stick with it, practice, practice, practice and it will be well worth it! When you do harvest your first deer with your bow, be sure to post your pics! Best of luck!!
Practice practice and in the off season practice shooting out of your ground blind. As for the lack of penetration on your first deer we need to no more on what you are shooting. Bow , dl, dw , arrow , broadhead. Beefie
penatration I am shooting a v-force carbon arrow with rage 2 inch broadhead. I use a Mathews mission craze with a 40-45 pound test. (Im not 100% sure) but my draw length is 25-26.
Stick with it, but first, IMO get rid if those rage. When people talk about how good they are, they are usually shooting 60-70 pounds. For your size, a good head would be the QAD exodus. I cant stress to you enough, fixed blade is the way to go. Hope this helps. Good luck, and there is still time to get it done this season.
Well I wouldn't blame your equipment young man. As you have read already practice. standing, sitting, and from a tree stand. It took me 5 years before I harvested my first deer with a bow. But in those 5 years I learned a lot about a deers nose , eyesight and hearing which all of the above has busted me in the past. If you stick around this forum and ask the right questions and read other posts you will be miles ahead of a lot of young hunters just starting out.
I think some of the problem is you have too much broadhead for the weight you are shooting. They make one for low poundage bows , think they call it low ke rage. Mechanicals take some power to open. As your DW increases you will have better results but your current set up is on the low end for mechanicals. Beefie
Too much broadhead for your set up. That head takes a lot of energy to open. You don't have that much. If you're set on mechanicals, try the low ke
Just keep practicing, bud. I was 11 when I killed my first one with a bow (6 when I killed my first with a gun), but try your best to keep calm. That is a lot easier said than done. I'm 20 now and still get way too excited when drawing back on a deer. Just practice a lot and control your breathing and you'll be okay. Good luck though!!!
